Moving..Warwickshire Grammer Schools

Hello all

We have 2DC age 4 and 7. We’re considering moving to Coventry (from London) to be nearer to both of our parents. However, I’m keen to be within catchment area for grammer schools which I believe are in Stratford-upon-Avon and Rugby?

DC definitely would benefit as she definitely isn’t challenged enough currently. Her school has said she is grammer school hence my interest.

I would prefer to buy in Rugby for being in the catchment area but the houses seem to be cheaper and nicer in Coventry for our budget (3 bed £250k).

Can anyone advise where (area) I should do my house search to ensure I’m in the catchment area please? Unsure how to check this and geography is not my strong suit 😬

Thank you

Ask MN to edit the title for you, OP, otherwise you'll just get dozens of responses telling you that it's 'grammar', not 'grammer'.

Surely you look at the school websites to check as a start? There seem to be sux state grammar schools. I imagine you will need to pick as Stratford and Rugby not that close.

I just looked at the mixed one in Rugby and ideally you need to be within 10 miles for priority so there’s an answer.

Do be aware tho that in a grammar area the children who don’t pass the 11+ will go to a school where the brightest have been creamed off. My dad taught in such a school so I know a bit about it. No way would I move to a grammar area personally.

It's a grammar school.

Property is cheaper in Rugby than Stratford. I haven’t heard of children from Coventry getting in
to the Rugby grammar schools, Coventry is a separate area to Warwickshire for education. However, there are several
lovely villages in catchment.

For commuting reasons I would avoid living in Coventry for a Stratford commute. The A46 between Coventry and Stratford is hell in the mornings. Rugby isn't great either but better.
Cheaper hosing definitely in Coventry but lots of not great areas where the cheaper housing is. I would try for a smaller place in Rugby if it was me. For your budget anything Warwick/Stratford way will be tricky.
