Hi Are there any parents whose children go to Royal who could give an honest opinion. I am considering the school as seems very good but wondering if suitable for boys regarding sport and friendships. where do the children come from? We are looking at Guildford area.

It’s a small school but as a result all the staff, including office, catering and mini bus drivers know your child. It’s not Uber sporty but every child is included in most matches so even if they aren’t sporty it helps their self confidence and esteem which is so important in teenagers who are so quick to give up. With small class sizes, they go on some fantastic trips and have great opportunities. Choice of school really depends on your child, for mine….. she is happy and has gained in confidence in her ability since joining the school (previous school one of the Guildford academic hot houses!).

Children come from Ripley, Farnham, Petersfield, Midhurst, Petworth, Dorking, Horsley ….. 2/3 mini buses run from Guildford area and a lot get the train to Haslemere ( where mini buses run regularly to/from school).

Oh sorry and there are the full time boarders that come from Asia / Africa / Europe and some weekly boarders from London. It is a diverse and inclusive community.

Thanks for replying. Just an update we decided to go with the Royal as we felt it was right for our child and the ISI assessment. Overall we are pleased with it. Although the head has been unwell, we felt Mr Norman was very impressive as deputy head and pleased to see he is now the new head. It feels a forward facing school and quite modern in its outlook. We really liked the future ready offer and that children are gently pushed to achieve their potential.
