Northwood High School

Does anyone have recent experience of Northwood High school.

How is it study wise?

Is it very academic or balanced?

Do kids go to good universities after finishing school?

What is the school culture like?

Are there many bullying incidents and how are they dealt with.

Any input will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry, no responses to this so far. Bumping up with little I know and hopefully someone with direct experience of the school will come along.

We live nearby and while my own DC (year 8) doesn't go to Northwood, several of her friends from primary go there. My knowledge is based on what they and their parents say

Northwood is considered one of the better state non-selective secondaries here (other being Ruislip High) with newly rebuilt buildings and facilities. DC's friends say everything is new and shiny. I have never heard any incidents of bullying from my DC's friends or their parents. There are the usual cliques, arguements/dramas etc common in year 7 which seems to have stabilised now, but overall the kids seem happy and engaged.

The school achieves very good results, well above local and national average with high progress 8 scores. High share of sixth form leavers go to Russell group universities, occasional Oxbridge/Imperial/Durham etc in very competitive subjects including medicine, maths.

It's in a pretty well off neighbourhood though (by Hillingdon standards), has a lower percentage of children on free school meals than Hillingdon and national average, and many parents are university educated well off professionals. My guess is all these, at least partly, contribute to better outcomes.

Lastly, it's heavily oversubscribed, and all places get filled up within less than 1km. So unless you are very close to the school, a place is not guaranteeed.
