Sibling criteria for entrance

Macey78 · 23/11/2023 23:25

I can't find the definitive answer.

DD1 is in year 11 have applied for DD2 to join the school in September 24.

Will DD2 get in on sibling criteria, seeing as he'd have left by then?

Any help appreciated

You need to look at the admissions criteria for the school. All schools will have their own rules

0hNoNotAgain · 23/11/2023 23:41

Not at my son's school - the original sibling still has to be attending for the sibling rule to apply

SiblingFights · 23/11/2023 23:43

IME most schools will have a qualifier such as "have a sibling continuing at {school name} in 2024, so no in your case.

Refbuckethat · 24/11/2023 00:26

Manchester LA no. Sibling has to be on rolll when sibling starts

Thanks all will have a closer look

Short answer here is no.

Your eldest will no longer be at that school so your youngest does not qualify for a sibling place.

Check the admission criteria - some schools say sibling on roll at point of application, in which case you are fine, others say at point of admission, which would not count - unless there is a sixth form and they are staying?

RoseAndRose · 24/11/2023 08:31

Not all the secondaries round here have sibling priority, so check if it's there at all

Reason is that secondary age DC can be expected to travel independently, so no need for them all to be going to same place. and they didn't want to be grappling with the issue of eldest sibling getting in then family moving away

Macey78 · 24/11/2023 23:17

Seen it now - says point of admission, super annoying having to go through weather she'll get in or not! Eldest dd didn't get in at first we went on the waiting list and then got a place in year 9!

Yes sorry, that means they probably won’t get sibling priority. Doesn’t mean they won’t get in though, distance cut off (if the school has this) can change massively from year to year
