Bristol Independent Schools

Interested in current parent's take on the various independent schools in Bristol. I have a 7 year old son and an 8 year old step-daughter and we are looking at the independent schools for Year 7 for both of them (I know we are looking early but we both have co-parents to get on board and that may take time!)

Both kids are pretty bright, my son is very sporty, daughter loves drama and art and also has recently diagnosed dyslexia. We're in BS3 so not in the typical area for those schools - one concern is how many other families from our side of the river will be in the various schools!

Very unsure of single sex for my son, much more open to it for daughter although ideally we'd have them both at the same school.

We've been to the BGS open event (we liked this but slightly worried about recent developments on sporting side), CHS (nice but not sold despite it being high on my list before the open event), Badminton (liked but not as much as BGS) and will be going to RMHS and QEH open days.

Would love to hear any recent experiences - thanks.

What are the recent developments on the sporting side at BGS?

@Lotustiger I'm not 100% - just heard that there were some issues with sports leadership and safety at matches. Have no idea how true this is, just rumours on the grapevine which I accept aren't always spot on. I was really impressed with them at the open event and I know they have an excellent reputation for sport. Which is why I'd be really keen to hear from any current parents but they seem on short supply!
