Any other lurkers here with a son taking the Hampton 10+ tomorrow? Does anyone know how many will sit it? How many will get an interview?

Last year they accepted 20, I believe. I don't know how many took the exam

lolo99 · 10/11/2023 23:27

We sat last year. I believe circa 250 sat

DartmouthParkHell · 11/11/2023 07:12

Morning, it's around 230 taking and 30 places. Don't worry if your son doesn't pass. Mine failed it and got in at 11+. You will get super helpful feedback from Admissions.

Ilikelists · 11/11/2023 10:17

Thanks for the response! Did your son get an interview?

Not at 10+ - he failed completely. He passed 11+, had an interview and went on the waiting list and them was eventually given a place. So don't worry if there are a few hurdles, you can still make it.

Hi, my son took the 10+ today. Another boy told my son that 240 kids were taking the exam today, he had a good experience and boys in his group were very chatty, like him :). Many boys wanted to go to King's though. Good luck to your son!

Ilikelists · 11/11/2023 20:41

It was a good experience for my son too, regardless of what happens next! Does Kings still do a 10+? If they do, I missed the boat on that one.

twfootballmum · 11/11/2023 20:57

Only 11+ at Kings. We are not considering it as it's too far, but our tutor mentioned their tests are not the most difficult and big focus placed on interviews. Most kids in the exam room at Hampton said they were taking the Kingston test in Jan too :)

redrobin75 · 11/11/2023 21:21

Lots of parents use the 10plus as practice for being in an exam room and possibly having an interview. It also gives you an idea of where your dc sits in the cohort and you can get feedback re their exam performance. The offer of a place does always mean the payment of a non refundable deposit!

twfootballmum · 11/11/2023 22:44

Thanks @redrobin75 , that's really good to know. I only know one boy 2 years ago who took the 10+ ( didn't get an interview, but received encouraging feedback from Hampton) and didn't get a place at 11+ either. So I was under the impression that they sent the same message to everyone.

DartmouthParkHell · 12/11/2023 07:01

Definitely not the same message to everyone. We almost dropped out of the whole private School thing after the 10+ but the admissions team were really helpful and gave us precise feedback on my son's strengths and weaknesses (based on the exam) so we decided to keep going and are so glad that we did. My son adores the School and is thriving there.

Waiting for the email. Any news?

OP posts:
twfootballmum · 15/11/2023 11:29

Yes, no good news for us. Really need to evaluate the approach as we overtutored in english but did very little in maths (just some papers at home). @Ilikelists hope you had better luck!

When I talk to the Hampton admission, they said that around 450 applied for 10+ this year. The competition is really high..

Read another thread Hampton 10+ 2022 that 200+ applied last year. This year is definitely more competitive.

Ilikelists · 15/11/2023 15:08

My son didn’t get an interview either. I knew it was going to be competitive, but I was still so hopeful! am dreading the entire 11+ process. Where/when/how to start?

Anyone knows how many will get into the interview round?

lililililililili · 15/11/2023 18:30

I noticed increasing interest in 10+ in recent years, from the people around me, to avoid the stress of 11+ (of course) and a card to play as insurance

Dalewoood · 21/11/2023 18:34

hampton said 250+ applied for 10+ this year.

Does anyone have news after the interview? Do you know when they will give out results?

Ilikelists · 24/11/2023 10:07

@CoraT I believe 29 November for interview results.

OP posts:
CoraT · 24/11/2023 11:28
