when should parents be informed about a search

My dd was searched at school today along with several other children. She questioned why and what they were looking for and she was told they had been informed that pupils had illegal substances. Now I don't object to the search itself I understand this is allowed and they have a duty of care to act if they suspect this. What I object to is that the school have not contacted me to inform me so I only know whet my child has told me. Apparently there have been some YP with weed pens?!? So, when should school inform me and what exactly should they tell me? Do I have the right to know why she was under suspicion?

I feel I should have been spoken to today.

This is the DfE guidance:

If a very large number of students were searched then it may have been impossible
to notify all of the parents today.
