Hi,

I was wondering if someone can give some insight into AT or TGA schools.

We live in catchment area of TGA meaning that DD should get into the TGA. However my other DD (older siblings) goes to Sutton grammar (she doesnt mind travelling to Sutton grammar as she likes the school).

Does anyone know if AT is better then TGA so that it warrants moving for the school to sutton coldfield. (Obeviously it will make commute easy for the older DD).

Thanks

You may not find any person with recent, first-hand experience of both schools.

I can't compare the two as I don't know TGA (other than seeing occasional positive mention of it on mumsnet!) but AT certainly has an excellent reputation and I know two students currently there, both of whom are happy and doing well. Have you visited AT? What does your younger DD think about the two schools?

I'd suggest doing a pros/cons list for each school, taking into consideration academic results, subject range, extra-curricular offering, facilities, each school's suitability for your younger daughter (depending how academic / sporty / sciencey etc she is) and also considering carefully whether you really want to uproot your whole family.

If you do decide to move for AT, make sure you move close enough. I know some people have just missed out in some years. Houses close to the school sell at a premium and get snapped up quickly.

Thanks for the reply.

What you said about moving close enough to the school has occured to me. We will be initially renting so I suppose we can move close enough but in the absense of the catchment area it still a gamble because if you dont get into AT you will be placed at other school. In solihull we have other very decent options such as Alderbrook , Arden etc which sutton lacks (or atleast there is only AT which you can compare with TGA/Arden - just my personal view).
