11 plus support thread for exams 2024

ElvenDreamer · 11/10/2023 08:55

Hi all,
Anyone fancy joining me for for an 11 plus support thread for those yr 5s who are probably just starting a bit of prep now ready to sit exams in September 2024?

State grammar is the angle I'm personally coming from but all welcome no matter if you're applying to private selective, state aptitude tests etc.

This will be my 3rd and final time of going through this and I've found support threads here really useful the previous times.

Hello,
I just want to ask if it's possible to list 4 grammar schools on CAF and not a place?

Assuming they have passed the exam.
It all depends on the admissions criteria and how they are applied.
In Bucks I remember there was a town that was a black spot for grammar schools - you took the exam, got 121+ but still didn't get a place as they lived too far away from the closest Grammars.

Is that what you mean?

Hi, yes got the result yesterday and DD is “deemed selective” but didn’t get to the top 180 who are guaranteed place. We are still waiting for 1 more exam result. Hopefully if she pass that we have 4 grammar schools to put on CAF. I’m not sure if I should put non-selective schools on the CAF but worried that the council will offer non-selective over the grammar. That would be upsetting as DD really tried hard to pass the exam.
thank you for your reply

BeJollyNewt · 12/10/2024 19:33

You can put your non-selective options after the selction. Council check for the palce availability from selective only if they are in your top priority.

Danascully2 · 12/10/2024 20:09

@Oldman3 it really depends on your location. Where I am it's done by catchment/distance so yes if you applied from too far away from any of the schools you could end up with no place at any of them regardless of what score you got. You are not in my area though so the way it works here isn't relevant to you. Have you got anyone local to you that you can ask about how it works where you are (Eg your child's school?).

ChairmanMeowww · 14/10/2024 08:22

Good luck today to the Gloucestershire folk, I hope you get the school you’re aiming for 🙏🏻 Nervously waiting now, trying to distract myself!

Examstressargh · 14/10/2024 08:34

Is there a possibility Trafford results could be today?

Unlikely but no harm in checking!

RandomUsernameHere · 14/10/2024 09:31

Good luck to everyone getting results today! No news here, there has been no update to the results being sent "mid-October" so I'm keeping a very close eye on my inbox.

troppibambini6 · 14/10/2024 09:35

Trafford parents is there something we are meant to log into to get results?
I was messaging with my friend who said the results were posted at 10am on
Thursday last year but then the system crashed for 2 hours. She got an email at 2pm. I

On the applicaa site

Examstressargh · 14/10/2024 09:43

@troppibambini6 my understanding is that it’s the appliccaa login that we have to use, but I don’t know if this is correct or not!!

troppibambini6 · 14/10/2024 09:50

Thank you she just messaged me back and said the same I've just logged in to make sure my log in was right Grin

She also told me it was 10am Thursday last year but the system then crashed for two hours. She received an email from Alty boys at 2pm saying he had passed followed by an email from Ambrose at 3pm.

troppibambini6 · 14/10/2024 09:51

The 10am email had a link to the aplica page to view your results.

ElvenDreamer · 14/10/2024 10:36

Essex results due today too, feeling slightly sick right now! Good luck everyone.

Everyone seemed to have a different experience last year! I got an email from Aplicaa at 10ish and then shortly after you're right, the system crashed so no-one could see results. Most people I knew were able to log on before lunch time though. Then the schools sent individual emails throughout the day, although not all of these stated whether or not the child had passed, some were just advising the results had been posted to the Aplicaa site (Stretford was definitely one of these as it came through while the system was down and it just added to the frustration that there were no results on there!).

It was definitely all a bit chaotic. I've got a year off the 11+ this year but back into it next 😨

Tuesday 22 October after noon is when the results will be made available. Just received the email from Aplicaa

troppibambini6 · 14/10/2024 10:45

@bobberra oh god that sounds very stressful!! Enjoy your rest this year... I have my fourth in Y5 now I can't wait to be done.
If you see a drunk woman in a gutter somewhere in Altrincham that will be me Grin

peacypops · 14/10/2024 10:45

For Trafford we have just had an email saying results at 12 noon on the 22nd October

yoshiblue · 14/10/2024 10:45

Examstressargh · 14/10/2024 10:47
