Edinburgh independent schools

Hi, wondering if anyone can offer any advice.

DD is applying for an S1 place at Mary Erskine and St George's Girls. This is mainly because her local state school is oversubscribed and she is recovering from a neurological illness so needs a quiet environment. She would also prefer to study without boys(!).

We are wondering two things really,

1, If there are any other schools anyone can recommend in Edinburgh? And..

2, If anyone knows how difficult these schools are to get into?

  • DD is very bright, good with reading/spelling and most basic numeracy (slightly behind but has a tutor) but needs extra time due to the illness and prefers to type over handwriting.

Thanks for any advice at all!

You’ll get more answers / there are previous answers on Scotsnet.

Both schools have good reputations. I don’t really like single sex education and don’t understand the diamond approach that ESMS do. Am sure both schools and the others will have good IT embedded into their learning. Our DC are at a mixed school and they’ve both used iPads/ laptops from day 1.
