Not sure if this thread has been started but if not, I would like to share experiences, tips and generally talk about schools and their pros and cons and processes to ease the anxiety and pain for us parents :)

Thanks Brugmansia and ALongProcess re Alleyns. Just fretting as DD performs a lot better in the mornings (medical reasons). Hopefully morning…

@Brugmansia and @ALongProcess how did your DS find the dulwich exam today ?
my DS is happy about himself finger crossed lets see what comes next … we’ll have to be more patient about that one as wont find out before 15th January.
so happy that it is (almost) over , still IPS part 2 next Thursday then we can breath again until January😅

Not got much information other than it wasn't just like atom, it was atom! We've been doing lots of ISEB practice on atom recently so hopefully today's positive.

Better is he's decided despite his antipathy to boys only he really liked Dulwich. Still not got feedback on what exalty.

We didn't take him to the open day as we weren't originally planning to apply. Only DH went as he wanted to consider it and DS was getting bored of open days by then. I couldn't go but grew up locally so have a pretty good idea of all the facilities and site anyway

Does she get adjustments or have medical reasons been disclosed and acknowledged?
DS is dyslexic so gets adjustments. So far all his exams have been in the morning, even when there have been 2 sittings, presumably because it's easier to facilitate extra time then in the day as a whole.

minipie · 08/12/2023 22:59

No, she doesn’t have any adjustments. I’ve mentioned her medical condition on the forms but under medical not SEN - it doesn’t affect her academically per se but it does mean she is more tired in the afternoons. I will ask for a morning slot if there are different time slots but would rather avoid asking if it’s all morning anyway!

Yes I have noticed they seem to put kids with adjustments in the morning.

lolo99 · 09/12/2023 17:48

Anybody's DC sit St George's this week? What feedback did your children give? Does anyone know how many places there are for 11+. I know some will be taken already for assured Junior school places.

PHS invitations for second stage are out! DD is through and we’re delighted as it’s our first choice! Does anyone know what the statistics are from here on? @SamPoodle123 might you know?

Wondermumof4 · 11/12/2023 10:03

Congrats to your DD !

W4mamabear · 11/12/2023 10:45

Congratulations to all who got through for Putney! I remember calling last year to ask for statistics and I think it was discussed on the old thread, but I cannot quite remember. Let me check and see if I might find it.

SamPoodle123 · 11/12/2023 11:44

@Iffiyas if you search putney offers after interview in advanced search you will see old threads mention. Last year it was said 50% get an offer if you make it to interview and then there are also ones that get WLs....so I think if you make it to interview it is a good chance for offer or WL. But call the school or you could ask during the interview. They are very friendly and can give a rough estimate.

W4mamabear · 11/12/2023 14:09

And to you @Iffiyas ! I am also going to look for info on second stage from last years threads, thanks @SamPoodle123

Iffiyas · 11/12/2023 15:36

Thanks! I called the school this afternoon but they said they won’t share stats! 🙃

Wondermumof4 · 11/12/2023 16:41

Anyone heard back from SPS ? I think as LU email is due tomorrow end of day they will probably send it at same time ?
hate the wait…. Nail biting loool

QuiteAJourney · 11/12/2023 16:49

@Iffiyas It seems to have been the same last year, from close friends that also asked and got the same response. Similarly, they did not share where in the reserve list girls were.

ALongProcess · 11/12/2023 17:03

@minipie @Brugmansia details through from Alleyn's - looks like the exams are in the morning for everyone

We've just received the Alleyn's information. DS is in the morning. I don't know if there is also an afternoon session.

minipie · 11/12/2023 19:52

Thanks Brugmansia. We haven’t had anything yet. Now paranoid I forgot to register!!

lolo99 · 11/12/2023 21:55

Is there a list anywhere on MN from recent years about the tiers of schools. I know it has been mentioned that some prep heads class some schools as tier 1 and some tier 2- down to difficulty levels to get in.

Difficulty to get in is highly correlated to the latest league table ranking especially the GCSE one.

Perhaps need to break down by State vs Private, London vs Non-London, Coed vs non Coed.

lolo99 · 11/12/2023 22:57

Thank you London co-Ed and single sex both. Interested in south west and Surrey mostly- and independent only.

@lolo99 , your ds is Hampton 10 plus "offer of a place" level and he has already sat 11 plus exams at several schools this Autumn so you must have a pretty good idea of the competition from what he has fed back to you, ie the Hampton exam is harder than the KGS exam. If you are searching for scholarships and bursaries then St George's weybridge and Laytmer seem to be 2 of the more generous schools.
Are you waiting for Tiffin too because that is the hardest to get into? I think you probably know more than many prep heads who often don't have a clue!

CocoC · 11/12/2023 23:44

My DD also got through to next round of PHS. I asked the PHS admissions person for stats and all she would say was that they ‘asked as many as possible’ for the second stage so that put a bit of a dampener on there for me!
