Not sure if this thread has been started but if not, I would like to share experiences, tips and generally talk about schools and their pros and cons and processes to ease the anxiety and pain for us parents :)

@QuiteAJourney do you remember if any of the kids who got offers last year had subject interviews or did they all have general interviews?

We did not know anyone with subject interviews ...they all had generic ones

Wondermumof4 · 05/01/2024 17:24

Good luck @travelturtle

thank you !

Does anyone have experience of a sports scholarship interview and the type of questions they might ask?

Isn’t this normally watching you play for a session or two in multi sports?

I read on one school website that they test general fitness levels for one part of it. I assume this will be part of it and then multi sports or a particular sport. The questions they ask are probably about the sports your DC does, why they like it etc.

Please do keep us updated. Or perhaps someone else might come along with experience.

swlondon24 · 06/01/2024 10:28

@CocoC which school are you referring to? Ibstock? It's not usually an interview but a 3 hour session to test "athleticism" or potential. It usually covers a very wide range of many skills - speed, agility, hand eye coordination, strength, endurance. They will do 20 different activities. DD has done a few and they even played "It" at one of them (= speed, agility, footwork). Each school will do it their own way but overall they will try to get an overall view of strengths and weaknesses and will probably look for potential in their main sports.

I assumed it was this too, but then I saw on the form it said something about interviews.
It’s FHSS, Emanuel and PHS

Annawintourssteak · 06/01/2024 15:48

Have you heard from Emanuel re the second stage of the Sports Scholarship yet?? We’ve not heard anything following the first session.

CocoC · 06/01/2024 18:15

No, it was in the documentation from FHSS when we submitted the application

lolo99 · 06/01/2024 18:39

Can we have a recap on the acronyms again? Please. I have no clue what schools these are. :)

Hi! Does anyone have experience of FHSS interview day? The invite email states: The session will include a practical creative task, a taster lesson and an interview

Can anyone share insights from previous years on what the creative task was like? Seems like it will be something we can’t prepare for just good to know what we can expect. Thank you so much!

W4mamabear · 06/01/2024 18:58

FHSS - Francis Holland Sloane Square
PHS - Putney high school

Hello everyone, would really love to know if many boys travel from Ealing to Hampton School. Aware that most will come from south of the river however the coach does have a pickup from Ealing albeit shared with LEH. If anyone has any insight it would be really helpful to know! We love the school and are hoping for a place but need to be realistic in terms of travel, socialising etc if all goes well! Good luck to all on this journey…

Bewler · 07/01/2024 17:35

My daughter is at LEH and her Ealing based friends get the shared coach with Hampton boys.

Shivvyshiv · 07/01/2024 17:39

@Bewler Thank you very much! We are slightly nervous that the numbers will be low from Ealing and if offered we would definitely have to rely on the coach.

11plusdoneanddusted · 07/01/2024 17:40

I think if you're in Ealing it's fine as your DS can travel all via public transport etc to meet up. Trickier when you're in the depths of the countryside. DS has a friend at Hampton and he seems to do his socialising in Kingston.

11plusdoneanddusted · 07/01/2024 17:45

Although one of the reasons DS didn't go to Hampton was that he'd have to go on the coach! Can be tricky for sport, especially rowing, plays, concerts etc. but there was no easy public transport option- possibly a bit easier from Ealing.

tennissquare · 07/01/2024 17:56

@Shivvyshiv , the boys come from all over, in my ds's class when they joined age 11 they came from Ascot, Leatherhead, Wimbledon, Weybridge, Sunbury, Twickenham, Surbiton and Ealing. All the coaches are shared with LEH, it's a not for profit company run by the 2 schools that organises the coaches, the problem is it's very expensive and no difference in price if you get on at the first or last stop.

Shivvyshiv · 07/01/2024 18:02

Hi @tennissquare Really helpful info, thank you so much! I agree the cost looks to be substantial on the Hamptons website however our other choice is Merchant Taylors which is very similar in terms of coach cost... We would be very reliant on the coach to/from Ealing hence if we get offered, it is comforting to know that there are a good few travelling to West London… Thanks again!

Shivvyshiv · 07/01/2024 18:05

Hi @11plusdoneanddusted Thank you! Good considerations for us. Public transport looks tricky however on weekends I would be happy to drive. Honestly, so much to think about, I will be very glad once it’s all over!!

Wondermumof4 · 07/01/2024 21:04

Do you think 40/45 min by transport is too far to go to
school everyday ? Im also thinking of distance i really like KGS where we might get an offer but hoping for Emanuel that is much closer to us. But might not have the choice in the end.
i wonder how far children travel 🤔

Pretty average I'd say!

I’m literally have exactly the same thoughts about the same schools
