Not sure if this thread has been started but if not, I would like to share experiences, tips and generally talk about schools and their pros and cons and processes to ease the anxiety and pain for us parents :)

I haven’t asked for advice on what will come up. Just if we should do Atom mocks or doing too much of that might end up working against us. Just how to tackle last minute practice really. As a first time parent going through the 11+, I was reluctant to post on MN as it doesn’t take much for this group to become passive aggressive, does it ?

BonjourCrisette · 02/12/2023 15:03

These threads always used to be so supportive and kind. It's really sad to see how combative they have become.

@W4mamabear honestly, at this stage, the best thing you can do is make sure your daughter is happy, rested and feeling positive before the test on Monday. Unless you think she would like to do some practice, I think you'd be just as well off watching a movie with hot chocolate or going out to do something fun and burning off a bit of energy. Best of luck.

travelturtle · 02/12/2023 15:23

@W4mamabear we aren’t doing London Consortium but in general before an exam I think just go through a couple of questions you know your child found tricky in the past, and then just let them relax. Good luck Monday

which schools are top 20 in times this year? I thought LEH was top 20 last year?

Last year LEH is 14th on GCSE join 31st on A level nationally overall 22nd according to Times parent power. So no, not top 20. But not sure how does it matter?

Roundstone · 02/12/2023 16:04

I have a DD at LEH in 6th form, I think there were a few kids really impacted by anxiety and the like- unsurprising given this was a year group heavily impacted by Covid (no GCSEs and A level exam concessions) . It's evidence of the positive in that even if girls were struggling they
got them through (unlike quite a few schools who don't let kids stay on for sixth form if they don't make the grade which is pretty stressful on top of stressful GCSEs). I dearly wish I could send my other two there but they are DSs! So there you go! She's had a first class education with a heap of opportunities for drama music etc and it's been so so supportive. You would be mad to discount any school because one year it has a blip- look at any school over the last five/seven. Its GCSEs anyway you want to look at at 11+. You DD/DS might decide they want a change for sixth form anyway.
Also I hasten to add that mental health issues happen at EVERY school. Sadly 😔 if you see a U or a D or whatever on grade results there is probably contextual information there.

Westlondonmum2024 · 02/12/2023 16:16

can you share the top 15 list? Is last year results free?

As mentioned many times, the link posted earlier on londonpreprep.com has every year since 2016 free and it is not much different from the times ranking as it is based on the results published by each school.

Westlondonmum2024 · 02/12/2023 16:36

Actually it is different I am looking for last year and this years times, if anyone has that

Can u explain how different is it?

Westlondonmum2024 · 02/12/2023 16:41

the Order they rank them seems different when I compared previous years to the times before as they consider different factors. If have the times I appreciate you sharing of not lets not argue why and what factors etc.

@Westlondonmum2024 you can access the latest league table using this link: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/schools-league-table

You just need to click the tab that says league table and scroll down and select independent schools. No paywall / no need to log in.

@Summerma thanks but I don’t have the subscription this year unfortunately

Summerma · 02/12/2023 17:02

I don’t have a log in/subscription. I would screenshot the table but it doesn’t display well on my phone so I’d have to send multiple screenshots…

Edited

Just do whatever you feel comfortable, doing Atom mock is helpful for the related test, I don't see it will have adverse effect for the last minute.

farfallarocks · 02/12/2023 17:30

please can we keep the tone supportive here? Posters who have been through this process are hugely valuable if they are supportive and empathetic rather than snippy and dare I say it, smug.

I'm not sure what factor you meant nor I want to argue, it is all fact based. Times essentially based on the exam data to generate the result it won't be much different to other table who based on the same exam result . I can post 2023 ranking based on 2022 here if that is what you what? Latest data already come out too, I posted earlier.

Specific to the LEH you interested in GCSE ranking is up and A level ranking is down 2023 vs 2022 according to Times parent power.

Next year will change again and the year next after that.

@PreplexJ thanks! that is much clearer copy. I couldn’t read the last one as it was blurry. I actually wanted to see the top 15 to see where the schools I am applying are in relation to each other. Where did you find this clear copy for 2022?

Note this is last year old data, top 15 rank there are 5 girls school in London. With this data available can you please tell me what factor you make you think this Times ranking different to the one we posted many times earlier in this thread?

SamPoodle123 · 02/12/2023 18:10

Would be interesting to see how the schools fluctuate on the parent power list for the last few years. As I have only started following it from last year.

PreplexJ · 02/12/2023 18:18

Westlondonmum2024 · 02/12/2023 18:05

It seems a lot top schools like LU, Hampton and G&l also moved down compared to last year.

LU is 25 last year up to 18 this year.
Hampton is 16 last year drop to 33 this year.
G&l is 4 last year drop to 12 this year.

With split hair difference in the result between these positions, I would consider all this are normal movements from year to year.

Westlondonmum2024 · 02/12/2023 18:37

LEH is now ranked below surbiton high at 55!!! That is not a a little drop. They will have a lot of pressure to prove that it was just last year …

LEH is 12th for GCSE this year up from 14 last year. Combined ranking with heavy A level weighted is down from 22 to 55.

as one PP pointed out earlier if they might have a more lenient sixth form cohort last year due to various reasons.

FHSS is another one that’s consistently improving!
