Not sure if this thread has been started but if not, I would like to share experiences, tips and generally talk about schools and their pros and cons and processes to ease the anxiety and pain for us parents :)

Dd also offered Woldingham thank you! So nice to have an offer. She’s thrilled. Good luck to anyone with results coming in today.

Congrats!!

It's such a relief after the time and hard work they put in for them to see it pay off.

Longer waits for the others due to second rounds of tests but at least this way they can have a nice weekend and can stop wondering if they did ok in the ISEB!

QuiteAJourney · 01/12/2023 18:05

@farfallarocks congrats

W4mamabear · 01/12/2023 19:03

Thanks for sharing! Very interesting especially the movement for NHEHS

W4mamabear · 01/12/2023 19:03

Congrats to all getting results today!!

PreplexJ · 01/12/2023 19:09

It is ironic that in the times reported:

"The highest-ranked coeducational school in our combined league table is the fee-paying King’s College School, Wimbledon in eighth place."

KCS is only coed for sixth form, the school is predominantly a boys school and the Times ranking use combine GCSE and A level results and give best academic coed school to KCS 😅

It just shows how bad quality it comes.

good evening , my son sat Emanuel school today.
it says interviews are towards end of January (i think 20th) but it does not say when they send email to inform if they have made it to interview.
anyone knows?

thanks

Summerma · 01/12/2023 20:12

@Wondermumof4 Week commencing 8 Jan for Emanuel interview results. I spoke to the deputy head today about it. He said he’d get an email out with the dates soon. Good luck to your DS!

HeavensToBetsy1 · 01/12/2023 20:13

Dropping in to wish all those sitting and waiting every good wish. We did this madness last year and if I close my eyes I'm back in that stressful time, it feels so recent as it was such an impactful slog. I hope you're all taking care of yourselves, it's a demanding process for the DC and parents. You're all brilliant. Hang in there.

(I'm a bit 🤷🏻‍♀️ at the prevalence of one poster on here though?!)

Thank you so much ! Its funny they write so close to interview date as most other schools send e mail about a week after the exam.
the wait will be long , would have loved to find out before christmas.
good luck also to your DC

Outerlondon2024 · 01/12/2023 20:28

believe the poster would attract less attention if they refrained from congratulating, wishing luck, or criticizing KCS

Iffiyas · 01/12/2023 20:30

It’s a yes for us too from IPS! Would be grateful to know ratios for offers from here on

Summerma · 01/12/2023 20:35

You’re welcome! Agreed re the wait. My DS loves the school so is keen to hear back asap. The deputy head explained that the wait was due to the school breaking up for Christmas fairly soon. I also overheard another member of staff mention approx +1000 students sitting the entrance exams… (for circa 90 odd places!)

travelturtle · 01/12/2023 20:53

We have a yes from IPS too. Phew. @Iffiyas I have noted down it’s about 650 apply and they take half to next round for 75-80 external places. Presumably they over offer as most do. Can’t guarantee those numbers right as can’t actually remember where I got that from. Open day probably.

@Summerma Yes think was easily 1,000 applying for Emanuel. Seemed busier this morning than 2 years ago and they had that number then. Huge queue this morning in the cold. Everything crossed though. Wish we had those results pre Xmas but will just have to wait 😬🤞

Summerma · 01/12/2023 21:21

@travelturtle wonderful news - congrats. I’m not surprised re numbers sitting Emanuel. I don’t know what’s not to love about the school.

HawaiiWake · 01/12/2023 22:36

Emanuel is paper base so they would take time to mark and those schools using Atom or ISEB could get results much quicker due to IT system marking it within minutes of taking exams.
Good luck for all schools exams and interviews!

ash86i · 02/12/2023 09:29

Re Emanuel - Last year we got an email with the timeline a week after the written exam. Email with interview/group experience invitation on January 10th and the interviews were week of 23rd Jan. Then offers were sent February 10th. Hope this helps!

Iffiyas · 02/12/2023 10:45

My DD didn’t see repeat with Atom on exam and Atom at home. But she did see at least 1/3 crossover between PHS and IPS and her friends told her that Surbiton was identical to IPS! She has Consortium next week so we shall see…..

Iffiyas · 02/12/2023 10:46

Surprised that LEH has fallen out of the top rankings! The A levels were very poor this year….wonder if the new head will make changes?!

Last year LEH is not in top 20 London in Times power ranking either because it weighted on A level heavily. So the fallen out narrative doesn't apply, it was not in the the top rankings in the first place according to Times.

Westlondonmum2024 · 02/12/2023 12:43

which schools are top 20 in times this year? I thought LEH was top 20 last year?

Summerma · 02/12/2023 13:21

I’ve sorted the table by GCSEs, at this stage as I’m not interested in the A level results and the difference is stark eg. Hampton is 20th for GCSE rank but plummets to 33rd when A level is factored. LEH is 12th for GCSE and 55th when A levels factored.

The info is interesting but personally we are more interested in pastoral support and value add. Some schools have incredibly impressive value add which don’t appear to be a metric in these rankings (happy to be corrected).

@Westlondonmum2024 - if you click on the tab that says league table, you can access the full table (took me a while to click the right thing). I don’t have a subscription/log in.

W4mamabear · 02/12/2023 13:37

Hi everyone! What would we recommend we go through on this weekend before the London consortium test on Monday? I’m hesitant to ask DD to do any Atom assessment tests as a low score could knock her confidence at this late stage. Perhaps just some Atom practice questions for tricky topics? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Iffiyas · 02/12/2023 14:41

@w4mamabear it’s a little cheeky to ask for advise as to what might come up! Best to focus on the areas you think your DD needs more practice in. We’re in the same boat and are just doing some Atom practice on areas of weakness
