Educas GCSE Religious Studies remark

I have been contacted by my son's school who tell me my son is 3 marks away from a grade 5 in Religious Studies. I have checked the mark scheme and he gained 126 marks, grade 3 is 107 or lower which means if we go for a remark he would need to lose 19 marks to be regraded down.

My son & I are both unsure whether go ahead with the remark as while it would be good for him to receive a higher mark, ultimately he has a pass and he has started sixth form which he is really happy with. He won't be studying anything related to Religious Studies in the future. Of course the risk is he could go down a grade and lose one of his GCSEs.

I was only notified this week and ideally I would have asked for the teacher to request the papers, have a look at any marks that may have been missed then submit that paper. As it turns out we don't have much time and need to confirm either way by 28 September.

Does anybody have any advice or experience of Educas GCSE Religious Studies remark?

I wouldn't bother - the difference between a 4 and a 5 in Religious Studies is likely to make not a jot of difference to his future life.

I do think you are so right! thanks for the reply

Depends on the rest of his grades. Most basic minimum qualification level is 5 GCSEs at grade 4+ including English and Maths but there are some opportunities which require 5 GCSEs at grade 5+ so if he has 4 other subjects at 5+ and getting this one upgraded would make it 5 then it might possibly be worth it so long as he would still have 5 others that were 4+ so that he wouldn't be disqualified from anything in the unlikely event of being downgraded. But if a remark wouldn't take him over a threshold like that then I wouldn't bother.

It won't go down and you don't know that it won't go up two grades. I've known that happen every year.

Also it's nice for the school/class teacher to get grades bumped up

thanks for your reply-that's a very good point. His grades were pretty good i think:
2x grade 7 (english lit & media)
5x grade 6 (including maths, english language and science)
1 x grade 5
2 x grade 4

so no worries there
