Trinity & Whitgift 10+/11+ exams 2024 entry

Hi everyone,

I'm starting a new thread for those with children who are sitting for the 10+ Trinity and Whitgift exams this year.

I've been lurking for years reading through the 10+ and 11+ past threads, silently sharing in the anxiety, pain and joy of those parents that have come before me 😅.

I can't believe that the time is now here for my DS to sit the 10+ exams.

Are there any other parents that would like to jump on board this thread so we can support each other through the next few months?

@bigschoolsdilemma , our interview is next week on the 18th. Congratulations on the scholarship assessment!

bigschoolsdilemma · 11/01/2024 19:07

just got the invite for the 20th!

He does rugby, hockey and football. We've chosen rugby and hockey for the assessment as these are his strongest sports.

Fantastic! My DS plays hockey in the junior league, but we applied for music rather than sports. We have an interview invite for the 20th too and parents meet with the PTA. Good luck to ur son!

bigschoolsdilemma · 11/01/2024 21:20

And good luck to your boy too Love Blue Cheese! I'm afraid my boy is not at all musical so it had to be sport! We will probably meet in the room waiting for the interview :-)

Re: academic scholarship interviews at T.

My DS are now in U6 and yr 5, so they may have changed things, but DS1 (no scholarship) got the standard interview email.

For DS2 (scholarship), we had a phone call telling us he'd done "very well". They arranged an interview with DS2, and a chat with Mr K for us, at the same time.

I suppose, though, if a boy does very well at a "standard" interview, then they could still be offered an academic scholarship.

LanguageTestQuery · 12/01/2024 08:14

Whitgift sent a specific email stating that the invitation is to an academic scholarship assessment day.

Hantsmum123 · 12/01/2024 12:50

Does anyone have a date for Trinity 11 plus interviews as yet or just the email saying they will contact in due course? Also has anyone been given a time for rhe drama scholarship assessment?

LesMis2020 · 12/01/2024 13:43

Re Trinity 11+, we have only received an email stating our DS did 'well enough' to get an interview and we will be contacted in due course, thank you for patience.
I believe someone here earlier posted they have had contact regarding an interview although no idea if it's 11+ or 10+, W or T! (ideally all these combinations would be in separate threads!) Also no idea how they order the list to set up interviews (trying not to overthink it!).

Not sure about the drama scholarship... Sorry

LesMis2020 · 12/01/2024 17:40

We have just received our Trinity 11+ interview date email

mumoftwoboyandgirl · 12/01/2024 18:07

My son did receive an email re: Interview tomorrow for 10+ W! And Sports Assessment on a separate email for W 10+ on Monday, 15th Jan.

Hantsmum123 · 12/01/2024 18:16

@LesMis2020. Are they just for the boys or parents also and is yours next week. Seems like quite short notice!

LesMis2020 · 12/01/2024 19:35

Ours is just for the DS though it states you can speak to the PTA members - yes, it's next week - short notice though states you don't need to prepare anything special and they will make the children feel at ease!

PamZg · 12/01/2024 22:30

I received the interview invitation for 11+ T on the 10th. It said that 15 minutes interview for DS and I will be meeting the head. Music scholarship invitation recived on 11th. Hope it helps.

Hantsmum123 · 13/01/2024 06:55

Was it a phone call or email. Paranoid about missing something!

LesMis2020 · 13/01/2024 08:05

As far as I know, only emails have been sent. You can download the OpenApply app to check messages from the school, in case you missed any going into junk box etc, link on previous page.

PamZg · 13/01/2024 09:17

Emails.

Suzukichippy · 13/01/2024 09:57

Good luck to everyone who's having 10+ interviews today at Whitgift! :)

Mamahappylove · 13/01/2024 13:26

Good luck to all. Whitgift was calm and super organised today. A really nice relaxed interview

GratefulMuch · 16/01/2024 13:02

Has anyone heard from the foundation regarding bursaries?

Mincepies16 · 17/01/2024 10:40

Hi, has anyone not heard back from Trinity regarding interviews for 11+? I’ve had an email on the 9th saying he passed but absolutely crickets after that! I’ve emailed the school and have had no response and am slightly panicking at the moment. Anyone else in the same boat?

Balhamdad11 · 17/01/2024 15:38

We have our 11+ interview coming up for Whitgift. Desperately hoping that he's successful and gets an offer as we love the school, and the fact he's passed the bar on the entrance exam I presume means he'd be able to keep up academically. Does anyone have any insights on likelihood of an offer having got to this stage? I find it crazy that you could 'reject' a 10/11 year old child based on an interview. I know that it's all part of the system for London selective schools, but doesn't sit well with me

GiveMeFive · 17/01/2024 17:44

Hello @Balhamdad11

Ds is currently in Year 12/L6 having started at W in Year 6. The interview is more about seeing if your child is the right fit for the school and obviously if it's the right choice from your prospective. If the pass was borderline then it maybe the opportunity to shine through or confirm that its not the right school academically for your son. No one wants to be in a situation where a child is struggling.
The interviewer will be kind and it's not at all daunting. Its always a postive experience. My advice would be to not tutor or prime your son for the interview. Let him be him.
Wishing you and all your sons good luck. Its a fantastic school.

GiveMeFive · 17/01/2024 17:48

Once the interviews are completed the offers go out as well as the waiting place letters. There are always more offers than places as some boys have several offers. The waiting list then starts to move.
The kindest thing you can do is take up or reject the offer as it is always agonising for the boys on waiting lists not to mention the anxiety of the parents

Balhamdad11 · 17/01/2024 17:52

@GiveMeFive thanks for your reply, kind words and advice. I’m definitely trying to refrain from coaching him for it because I think it might make him overthink it on the day and come across less well. Difficult to hold my nerve though!

Mamahappylove · 17/01/2024 19:57

We have a year 10 son who is very happy at Whitgift and also just tried for our youngest who had an interview on Saturday. It was a very chilled chat where our son amongst other things chatted about how he grows avocado trees 😂
