Trying to find a definitive list of equipment// sketchbooks needed!

I'm not sure there is a definitive list as it will entirely depend on what type(s) of art your DC wants to specialise in.
Schools also tend to provide a lot of materials, although whether you want to rely on these partly depends on how much access to the art room is available before/after school.

DC's school suggested the following:
A small pack of acrylic paints
A tin or small pack of watercolour paints
A selection of paint brushes
A 2B and 4B sketching pencil
A pack of oil pastels
A pack of good quality colour pencils (these could be watercolour pencils)
A rubber
A sharpener
A black fine liner pen

(For textiles)
A medium embroidery hoop (8” to 12” approx.)
A selection of embroidery needles
A selection of embroidery threads
Embroidery scissors

DD also chose to present her portfolio in a sketchbook (not sure as to size) and found an A1 carrier useful for transferring art work.
She specialised in fine art and textiles. Other things might be relevant if you choose different specialisms
