DS starting year 11

My DS is starting year 11 soon and he needs a new winter coat. We have looked around lots of shops, both online and in-store, and the only coat my son likes is a womens parka with a big faux fur hood from Superdry. The only way to tell the coat is womens is the side the buttons are on. He has a mens Zavetti coat that still fits him, but he usually gets a new winter coat every time he starts a new year at school. I have uploaded a pic of the coat my son wants from the Superdry website. I don't know whether I should buy him the womens coat or if he should just wear his old Superdry coat. I don't mind him wearing a womens coat, but I am worried about what other pupils might say about him wearing a womens coat. PS. He has never worn a womens coat before.

Leaving aside the question of whether he should wear the coat or not (he should if he's happy to do so) if his old coat still fits him and is only a year old (a good proportion of which he presumably didn't wear it), it feels incredibly wasteful to buy a new one "just because".

Thank you for your reply. His old Zavetti coat is about a year old, but it is already falling apart. It should be good for a few months, but he will probably need a new coat in time for winter.

It goes in at the waist because it's a female coat

Has he tried it on?

He hasn't tried it on yet, as we just found it on the Superdry website. We will go to Superdry tomorrow and he can try it on.

My concern would be whether he would wear it. I've struggled to wrangle my teen into a coat for several years now. Last winter was a mixture of "my blazer is fine" to "okay then I'll wear a hoodie under my blazer".

I think my son will wear the coat. Whenever it gets slightly cold outside, my son puts his coat on straight away. He doesn't mind wearing a coat.

Uniqlo have good and reasonable pice coats.

I second Uniqlo. They're brilliant and far lighter than the superdry coats but just as warm.

The coat looks fitted so might be obvious it’s for women ( not a problem if he’s ok with people knowing).
He might also find the arms are too short.

Definitely need to try it on, a women’s it is likely to be a really bad fit on a teenage boy
