GCSE Malpractice update

OK, so some of you may remember my pay from a month or so ago about my daughter using offensive language in an exam. Unfortunately, I had to ask for the thread to be removed as I feared it was attracting too much attention and was in danger of being picked up by the press. I was also concerned that I had given away too much information (exam, exam board, comments etc) so that, if it had been picked up by the press my DD would have been easily identifiable to anyone from the exam board who might have seen it.

Anyway, now that the results are in I thought I'd give a quick update for anyone who was interested. The sanction she received was 'just' a warning. Despite this, however, she did still fail that particular exam (no surprise there). She did get As and A*s for all of her other exams though and the school are not taking it any further so her place in 6th form is secure (phew).

Lesson well learnt by my DD I think - now she just has to decide what A levels she wants to do 😂

Ah, that’s good.

Thank you for coming back to let us know.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 28/08/2023 16:01

As long as she has learnt her lesson!

Motnight · 28/08/2023 16:02

Great update, Op, thank you.

As long as she has learnt her lesson!

The OP said she has?

Great news, OP!

Nice outcome

JenniferBarkley · 28/08/2023 16:06

Great news OP, I remember thinking a punishment would be harsh (although I'm not involved with exams at school level). Best of luck to her.

Madcats · 28/08/2023 16:10

Oh I remember that thread (and remember thanking my lucky stars that DD put her foot down re subjects I suggested for GCSE).

One day you will both look back and laugh.... but perhaps not just yet!

ChaoticCrumble · 28/08/2023 16:29

Brilliant news, OP, I can easily see how a student in a funk could make that mistake, not understanding the potential ramifications. Thank you for updating.

PoshPineapple · 28/08/2023 16:31

Thanks for the update OP, let's hope you can all put this behind you and onwards and upwards to better times!

RedHelenB · 28/08/2023 16:41

Fair enough, lesson learned. Thanks for the update.

Fifthtimelucky · 28/08/2023 17:20

I remember your thread and that some posters weee suggesting that your daughter might have all her marks withheld.

Sounds like the exam board made a sensible decision. Must be a huge relief!

QuillBill · 28/08/2023 17:26

Thank goodness. I think the exam board and the sixth form made the right decision too. Fantastic results! ⭐️

SomersetBrie · 28/08/2023 20:03

I am glad that things did not turn out worse for her, she did not deserve what some people seemed to think would happen.
Onwards and upwards now.

BendingSpoons · 28/08/2023 20:57

Pleased to hear your update. Glad that her other exams weren't affected and she will know better next time.

Rayaandthedragon · 28/08/2023 21:19

Thankyou for the update; I was also wondering what the outcome was. You must be relieved.
