Failed AQA Business - any advice please?

DS has got all 6s except for business which he has got a 3 in. He was predicted an 8 in business and is absolutely gutted. The score that is showing overall is lower than the score he has been getting on each paper individually. It just seems so odd as it’s his strongest subject or has been for the last 2 years! Is there anyway to find out what the scores were on the individual papers? I have contacted school but no response. This has scuppered his chance of his 1st choice 6th form and he is planning to do business at A-Level.

No advice, but pretty similar circumstances. DS got a 3 in Buisness (Edexcel though) and 7s in other subjects.

@FuckYouEzekiel it’s baffling, if it had been science or even maths we would have understood it more as they aren’t his strongest subjects but this just seems like they have lost a paper although I know that rarely happens!

Agree, we were doing lots of past papers and his results were really strong. I am planning on calling up after the weekend as I'm convinced I've messed up somewhere (we home ed) Hopefully will see some more experiences if more post here.

You can ask for copies of the paper. Try emailing the exams officer at the school.

Lastnightidreamtofmanderley · 24/08/2023 20:55

@dahliadazed Thank you will definitely do that! Can you get them independently checked?

You can pay the exam board to recheck the papers for clerical errors, usually that’s if a student is close to a grade boundary.

Your DSs teacher may be happy to look over the paper as with such a discrepancy they may want to know what went wrong.

Our school has said we should request exam scripts back on the priority script service (free of charge) and then view the exam work with the teachers.
School will then advise us if they think a review of the result is worth pursuing

@Digimoor thank you, I have emailed school and asked for them so hopefully we can get some clarity! We have accepted now that he will probably have to accept his 2nd choice which is still a good one and that as it’s not English or maths he is still in a strong position and has done really well but it would be good to review and work out what’s gone wrong.

Most exams are now marked online so clerical checks are pointless because the system does the adding.

Ask for priority access to the scripts and ask the school to look at them and advise you whether to ask for a review. Most reviews result in no change to the grade though.
