Hope that all DCs and DSCs are out with friends and having a little break at least

Seems like the whole top set for Eng Lit at DS's school performed below expectations. Most of have dropped a grade from expected. DS went from a 7/8 to a 5. They are a bit baffled and pissed off. Not sure why they've all performed poorly (relatively speaking).

DoodleMum12 · 24/08/2023 14:00

Mine is- went out for some free food at Frankie and Benny’s with her mates. They all got the marks they wanted as I am so proud I could burst!!

Toffeesgirl · 24/08/2023 14:00

Thank you for the new thread.

Haven't seen DS since he came out of school - they've all gone yo find the restaurants having away free food to gcse students (Frankie and Bennys I think!)

Toffeesgirl · 24/08/2023 14:02

Maybe they'll bump into each other @DoodleMum12 !

jamimmi · 24/08/2023 14:03

@OvaHere same at dd school all grade 7 plus then this random 5. School are baffled its the whole school drooped down . She did aqa. Language was a 7!

jamimmi · 24/08/2023 14:03
  • dropped ! 🤣
DoodleMum12 · 24/08/2023 14:05

@Toffeesgirl 😂 maybe!! I think it’s lovely that these restaurants are offering such a generous reward for them

ShovellyJoe · 24/08/2023 14:06

Lit grades are all over the place here.

It's dd's best subject, never got below a 9 in it and is really talented, felt confident and pleased and came out with a 7. Her teacher is baffled. 9 in Lang as expected.

Hellocatshome · 24/08/2023 14:07

Place marking. DS is going for food but not the free food he couldn't be bothered with the queues. Spent most of the day translating my older work colleagues grandkids grades into letters so they understand how well they have done.

Maverick197 · 24/08/2023 14:07

Congrats to all who got their results! My dd got better grades than expected, she did very sporadic revision and found the exam stress too much to bear at times. She got all 6s with one 5 and a 9. She secured a place at her 1st choice 6th form which is a huge relief as it is also closest to us and many of her friends are going there. However, she didn't get a high enough mark to study maths A-level, she got a 6 and needed a 7, so it's back to the drawing board regarding A-level choices.

Looking at her point score, she was 2 or 3 points off the higher mark in 3 subjects, but we wont ask for re-scoring as a higher score wouldn't impact her choices.

1 mark off a 4 in Eng Lit for ds so I have emailed the school to ask if it’s worth checking this, but the real shock was a 5 for Music when he had been getting 8s and 9s throughout. We have asked how we go about getting this reviewed because it’s what he wants to do as a career and at Post 16, even with harsher grade boundaries it is way lower than he was expecting. Overall we are really proud of him though, it’s not been easy for this lot and they’ve all shown amazing resilience.

Yes also AQA here.

DoodleMum12 · 24/08/2023 14:10

@ShovellyJoe I totally agree! DD didn’t think she’d even get an 8 in lit and came out with a 9 and mark of 155 (maximum 160) which she was truly shocked about , her bestie was expecting a 9 like your dd and came out with a 7.

Beamur · 24/08/2023 14:13

DD and her friends are all happy with their results. Off for discounted food at Nandos 😂
Chatting with one of the teachers he commented that the grades overall are down this year (selective grammar with very good track record)

Lot of music upset at our school too. Not one of DS's subjects but nobody seems to have done really well in it.

Monstermunchy · 24/08/2023 14:20

Yes Eng lit was the suprise here too - a 6 when he was comfortably on for an 8. Weird.

Soundofshuna · 24/08/2023 14:25

Dd did well but having seen the press release from school is now feeling less cheerful as she did less well than average at her very academic independent school. She’s done well in her A level subjects which is the main thing but having always been a very high flyer she’s a bit disappointed.

GinGella · 24/08/2023 14:27

Same with English Lit here too, language as expected also AQA. Biology only other slight drop and physics was higher than expected. Overall DD is happy and has what she needs which is the important thing!

LostFrog · 24/08/2023 14:27

@OvaHere that’s interesting, OCR exam board here - is that the same for you?

MrsHamlet · 24/08/2023 14:28

For those wondering about reviews:

1- ask the exams officer for priority access to the scripts. It's free.
2- ask someone who knows the spec to look it over. Might be the class teacher; might be someone else in the dept.
3- if they spot an obvious marking error or they think it's been unreasonably marked....
4- request a review. That's not free.

Candidates can ask for access to any script.

AnxiousElephant77 · 24/08/2023 14:29

Lots of Dance upset here. Way, way lower than predicted. Still able to do it at A Level but a bit of a shock!

I'm just still full of adrenaline, I need a drink.

No AQA here.

NCTDN · 24/08/2023 14:32

Aqa English language is the shock here- got 5 when predicted an 8. Only 2 off a 6 so think teacher is looking at a review of it.
Can anyone remember who the further maths person is? I've got a question and can't remember who to ask!
