Mildenhall - Big Move & Secondary Schools!

So, we are planning on moving to Mildenhall for Essex summer 2024, to be closer to family.

My eldest daughter will be starting secondary school September 2024 & my youngest will be starting Year 5 of primary school.

I have no idea where to start, I cannot find any information as to school opening evening around that area?

I have sent an email to one of the headteachers, but awaiting response.

Can anyone help guide me?

If your child starts Secondary in Sept 24, you would need to apply by 31 October this year, and you need to use your current address at that point. So realistically you will be applying from an address, I assume, that is some distance away and therefore you are unlikely to get into a school of your choice unless they are undersubscribed. That said, Mildenhall College Academy offered to all applicants this year so you would have got a place wherever you lived!

When you move, the local authority will have an obligation to find you a local school, but it will be in whichever school has places; same for your year 5.

You will probably find school offices slow to respond over the summer but their websites may have detail of open mornings/evenings in Sept.

It's pretty much end of term so not a lot will be happening in terms of days, but once autumn term has started, things will be different. Both my DDs have been through MCA and MCA6. Like all schools you get out what you put in - if your DD works hard and behaves well, she will be well supported and will achieve. The 6th form is lovely and doesn't have a uniform, and the school is in a snazzy new building (since 2021) - my two were in the grotty prefabs!

Mildenhall's in Suffolk I think.

It is, I think OP is moving from Essex. There is also a Mildenhall in Wiltshire.
