Sutton High Prep -> 11+

Hi all,

Has anyone had their DD attend Sutton High Prep and then take the 11+ to get into grammar schools in Sutton?

We live very far from Sutton and we are considering moving into the area for the 11+

DD is in Y3 now. Changing schools in Y4 (from public to private) with a focus on 11+ options seems like the only thing we can do as we are outside the catchment of all grammar schools and do not have a good secondary school option nearby.

Private school fees along with the 11+ coaching fees is going to be a fair bit to tackle. Can anyone advise on how much this could end up to be?

Many thanks

According to the link above, most of the students from Sutton High Prep will end up in Sutton High School, I guess very few actually progress to Sutton state grammars? So probably not very targeted preparation?

The best is if you move between Kingston and Sutton to be in catchment for Tiffin and Sutton. But in Y3 it is a bit early to determine if you have a child that is grammar material

@TheShorestAnswerIsDoing am worried about not getting a place in the good public schools there as it will be an in-year admission :(
Most schools come up as oversubscribed.

@PreplexJ Thank you, yes, it doesn't look like the school devotes time in prepping for 11+ unlike what I have heard of Seaton

Sutton Grammar was downgraded from Outstanding to Good. I personally believe that parents are pushing extremely hard their children to enter very competitive grammar schools with a mediocre teachers and mediocre pastoral care ( as per OFSTED revelations) that are even more underfunded than any other state. Grammar schools get less per pupil.

If you have flexibility of moving I would look at state comprehensive schools with excellent results and good teachers and move next door. Alternatively, look at faith schools that are state funded and get church donations.

Consider also if you would be eligible for bursary in good private schools.

most Sutton primaries are indeed oversuscribed
you can start with Sutton High and apply for grammar at 11+ but should be prepared to do the work yourself.

It's a soft lovely nurturing environment very different from the grammar schools so many people are happy to stay all through.
