My DC went to private reception and yr1 and then an excellent state in yr2 after moving city he went to local state moved him after lockdown to private for start of yr6 he struggles with distance finds it tiring. Impossible to do much after school as he gets back so late
local good state school and would give him an extra two hours a night.
hes currently yr8
not sure if I should move him for yr 9…
met a mum with a yr 11 child who she moved to private in yr9 and said she regretted decision Distance was too much for daughter and her not being with local friends was an issue, she worries daughter will later blame parents for the move.

education important but so is quality of life. Don’t know what to do need to decide by Monday please help

I did this OP, moved DD from private to state at the end of Yr7. DC reclaimed 8 hours of her week when she stopped the long coach journey to private school. It was exhausting her.

Did we make the right decision?

As a parent that’s a tough one to call as there are so many positives and opportunities that come with private schooling, we definitely miss the excellent sport. DD moved into a grammar, I’d say the teaching is comparable and behaviour is excellent.

I’ve just asked DD, Yr10, what she thinks and she said it was definitely the right decision for her. She’s happier at state, loves the short journey on the school bus with her friends. Agrees she misses the sport but that is all she does miss.

Good luck.

@TwoPointFourCatsAndDogs this is such useful advice, thank you I’ve been in turmoil as to what’s best for him, we would save so much time and quality of life is so important. He would like to visit the school so we will arrange that next week. Speaking to my wise mum she thinks the move is a good idea as winter is particularly difficult
