Thoughts about KCS Wimbledon?

In a few years we will be applying for 11+ places for DS. We are in SW London and are looking at grammar schools, KCS, KGS, possibly Claremont FC.

Is KCS looking for a particular type of child? How does it's difficulty to get into rank in comparison to the other schools we are considering? Anything else I should know?

It's much harder to get into that the privates on your list and level ish with Tiffin boys. Is your ds in a prep or state primary and if it's a state primary is he at the top of the year group and equally good at maths and English? The KCS English paper is tricky.
Most parents would have Hampton on that list too. Hampton is almost level with KCS and easier than Tiffin which is the hardest school to get into.

I'm sure you will visit all the schools but the differences are around sport, IB v A levels, mixed v single sex etc.

I think KCS and Claremont FC are not in the same league. One is very academic, one is not at all. Hampton is a little easier than KCS apparently but the standard also very high

Tiffin would probably be top of our list. It's harder than KCS you reckon @tennissquare ?
Yes, CFC would be a backup. My other son applied to Hampton but the journey was only doable by school bus, KCS is more attractive as it's easier by public transport. I loved Hampton though. I'd prefer mixed to single sex but it's not a massive factor.
He is at a state primary but we will tutor. He finds the primary curriculum easy, is at greater depth in English and I think in maths but I can't remember.

@GeorgeSpeaks , you sound like you know what you are doing and yes statistically Tiffin is harder to get into that KCS but a bright ds will do well in all the exams and get all the offers. If you read through the thread for entrance exams in Jan Feb 23 you will see some ds got 7 offers and took Tiffin etc.

In general, top grammar is harder than top indies, it is just statistics and conditional probability (££)

Thanks for this advice. I'll look around it maybe next year.
