Teacher moving from primary to secondary

I am a primary teacher and looking to move to Secondary. I have done some experience in a secondary. Am applying for a SME/Citizenship role. Any tips on applying/interview? Also how I could use primary experience to my advantage. Thanks.

Make sure you are really up to date with your subject knowledge, curriculum/qualifications and evidence based research.
Read the school website fully.
make sure you address each point in the person specification.
I would say primary has helped you develop strategies to support lower ability learners and SEN students and build relationships with parents/carers. But you’d also need to prove you can teach at a higher level and tackle difficult behaviour.

Bumping this- but more a question of can I re-train? I know I would need specialist subject knowledge so is there a qualification or course to help me move on?

they will ask you why you’re making the move - you need a rock solid answer

@tryingsomethingnew what’s your degree in? Depending on the subject there will be organisations offering specific CPD

look on the exam board websites. This is the first one I came across for Google. Do the English language and English literature GCSE and A-level courses. Google stuff for ks3.

For some boards you won’t be able to mark gcse / a-level papers, but if you can find one that will let you it’s the best CPD for understanding the requirements of the exam you can get.
