DS had his Eng Lang creative writing paper today - they had to write about a dream. He said he wrote something quite similar to one of the texts he'd written as part of revision, which was about a secret. He showed the revision text to me and it was lovely, but I'm curious about one thing. It was written in the third person, in prose (not speech), in an informal, conversational style, and including quite a few contractions (one of which was "couldn't've" meaning "could not have", which made me do a double-take, but all the apostrophes were in the correct place).
Is this sort of informal style ok/encouraged for the creative writing paper? It would be fine in a novel, but I don't know much about the GCSE marking scheme.
