Hi, a very negative experience with Minerva Virtual Academy - learning mostly through youtube videos. Does anyone have experience of other online schools they could share please?

Hi, I’m involved in setting up Milverton Online Education which is launching this September. Do take a look at the website Milvertoneducation.com.

Oh gosh, that’s sad to hear. I’ve had a lovely experience with an EPQ with Highgrove Education. In person lessons and a self study platform and really flexible. https://highgroveeducation.com/ I’m so pro online education / homeschooling, it’s such a shame when the quality isn’t high all round.

@ImPipsMum I’m interested in online schooling for my daughter who is currently in a mainstream school in year 10. She is being bullied and her education is suffering. I like the look of Highgrove but it seems different to Minerva and Kings (and more expensive). What do you like about it?

I see this thread started last year, but has some engagement of late. I'd love to hear more with experience. I'm lightly rooting with seeing if we can get funding for online education after mainstream had failed my oldest children with ALN/SEND. I had looked with curiosity at Minerva, so it's a shame to hear this report. I'm wondering if there are others who can share experiences, but I don't think we have the budget with four children to pay for the expensive schools unless I can get our council to cover it where traditional school isn't working and there aren't many alternative provisions around.

@IdahoMum I am thinking of an on line school for my daughter as she has severe anxiety and is unable to go to physical school. I’m curious about what you say about getting the council to help with costs, as on line school is so expensive. How would we go about asking councils to help?

Minerva does not learn through YouTube videos. Best online school going. But do your research and you’ll find this out. Best of luck finding the right place. MVA is exceptional in our experience.

Sounds a bit like a shady Minerva mole 😅

Had a very positive experience with Minerva, my daughter interacts a lot more with teachers as she is not called upon, as a result more confident learner and far more organised. Only downside is that it can become a little lonely at times, so have to arrange play dates with old school friends. She’s learnt a lot more than physical school. Not for everyone but works well for us.

@holidaysoonplease could school move her away from the bullies to another year group? So sorry to hear this..
