London Consortium question?

Hi,

New to this but how does this work if you are already in one of the consortium schools but wish to get a place in one of the others?

Firstly - if you do badly, could you get thrown out of the current school!
Secondly - can you apply to other schools within the consortium

"Firstly - if you do badly, could you get thrown out of the current school!" - if your current school is a through school, they couldn't throw you out for this reason. I'm not even sure the school will get your test result if you didn't apply for the school you are attending. Also you can request to change the exam location not being your current school.

"Secondly - can you apply to other schools within the consortium" - yes you can apply a few. Just need to pay the fee per school. A lot of kids applied 2-4 schools within consortium.

@PreplexJ thanks for taking the time to reply. Do these require a lot of prep? Im thinking ahead here, this is quite a few years off but i saw the consortium is linked to some sort of revision company. Do you have to subscribe to be better prepared?

@hellenabe Since you say few years off I would say no need to specific prep now. Just make sure your DDs academic progress in school is not falling behind.

Depends Consortium schools, some are easier than others and don't know your DD situation can't comment but you will probably know better when your DD is year 4 onwards.

Consortium test is provided by Atom ( controversial) so we did find we have some advantage when we subscribe to practice.

However, it is less relevant to your situation because the test format or provider change from time to time.

@PreplexJ i am just thinking about South Hampstead as an option though i get the impression it's very tough there

@Hellenabe SHHS (along with GL) probably will have higher cut off score than other consortium schools. Interview also take a part.

But it is probably not any more difficult than other similar 11+ schools in London. Last year during exam time, we also see some SHHS junior students attend other school exams.

Probably a very silly question but where do I find an application for Consortium? I thought it would be here http://london11plus.co.uk/ but cannot see anything?

Also, can anyone help me what to do if I don't want my daughter to sit the exam in her current school (one of the consortium schools) as GL have said that she will have to sit her exam there. We are not applying to any other consortium school apart from GL. Many thanks.

You need to apply directly from the consortium school's website. The schools may not be accepting applications yet, but you can register at this point, and they will let you know when it's time for application.

When applying from a school website, you will need to mention whether you want to take the exam there.

We took the exam few years ago and at the time it was possible to choose any of the consortium schools to take the exam in. I don't know if that has changed now though.
