GCSE maths - which exam board?

DC has EOTAS via an EHCP, so we aren’t tied to the board a school uses. If mental health allows would be looking at a 8 or 9.

I know Edexcel is more commonly sat in schools, but how do the boards compare? What are the pros and cons of each board?

Some HE families do iGCSE, but we have ruled that out as the papers are longer and they don’t have a non-calculator paper which DC does very well with.

It might be best to figure out where you are going to be taking the exam and then you will know which exam boards they support. If you do it the other way round you could end up stuck with a long journey for somewhere that will do the board you've selected.

DC will require home invigilation, there’s a couple of potential centres where we could access AQA, Edexcel or OCR maths.

Not sure if you've come across this wiki, also there is a Facebook group for Home Ed GCSE's you'll likely get some helpful responses there as it's quite busy atm!

I don't know how much involvement you have with his education, but edexcel has the most resources available. If you're after past papers etc edexcel has the best selection. They also provide all sorts of other materials in the emporium.

The benefit of OCR is that the papers are out of 100 so students do get rewarded for their knowledge. Anecdotally foundation students do better on edexcel.

Avoid AQA with a barge pole!

Thank you both.

DC has a tutor but we are still involved to some extent so having more resources is appealing. The tutor is normally helpful, but is happy to go with whichever board we decide because since the reforms they have only taught Edexcel (which would be advantage of using Edexcel but I want to at least consider the others).

@Hercisback can I ask why you say avoid AQA?
