Unsuccessful appeal

bags0455 · 20/05/2023 16:26

My appeal has been refused and I need to try and get someone to help me. We are struggling so much with the outcome as we didn't think that would happen. Please who can I contact to help me local MP or council

Op you got lots of advice on your other thread. The school have not acted unlawfully and your child had no reason to be offered a place over children who did. I suggest you start talking positively about the school your child has been offered so he doesn't feed off your anxiety and get enthusiastic about transition arrangements.

OP, I'm sorry you don't like what you are hearing on your other thread: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/secondary/4810201-unsuccessful-appeal
but honestly unless there are strong reasons you haven't said there I don't see what an MP could do? MPs are good at unclogging blocked processes but there doesn't on the surface of it seem to be anything 'wrong' with your appeal - you just didn't build a good case.

QuillBill · 20/05/2023 16:45

I don't see what they could do. There is a process if you don't get the school place you want and MPs can't meddle in that process. They would just tell you to appeal (which you have) and that's that. You can appeal again next year.

QuillBill · 20/05/2023 16:48

Also, go on the waiting list for all the schools in the area that you would prefer.

Neither your MP nor your local council can help. Unless there was something wrong with the way the appeal was conducted, the decision of the appeal panel is final.

StressedMumOf2Girls · 20/05/2023 18:11

As others have said both here and your other thread, this is the end of the road for you in terms of your chances in that specific school. Unless you're on the WL and a place comes up.

Your only options are sticking to the school you've got, going private or home educating.

It’s not helpful having two threads about the same appeal.

The panel’s decision is final. As others have said, unless you have reason to think the appeal process was flawed (beyond not liking the outcome), there’s nothing more to be done. Your MP is very unlikely to intervene to get you a place in an oversubscribed school where you have lost an appeal. The local education authority will help you find a school place if you don’t already have one.

Cantthinkofaname2203 · 20/05/2023 19:51

You need to get on waiting lists.

have you been offered (and accepted) a school?

Lougle · 20/05/2023 20:08

I think you should have got some advice before you appealed. It sounds like your appeal was based on 'we want this school' rather than 'this school is better for my child because...'

You can have one thread or ten threads but the answers won't change.

hiredandsqueak · 20/05/2023 20:17

I think you need to draw a line under it and start preparing your child to attend the school he has been allocated whilst adding his name to waiting lists. You have to let go of this school because your son won't be going there and you need him to cope with the disappointment and also prepare him for his new school. He won't manage that if he sees you still hankering for something that isn't going to happen.
