Manchester secondary schools

We live just outside of Manchester and have a child in year 8. We aren’t hugely impressed with the school but after making a few enquiries it appears that schools across the region rarely have any spaces for in-year admissions so it seems we don’t really have any options. Private schools such as Stockport Grammar are also full. Has anyone ever successfully obtained a place from Stockport’s waiting list? Or other similar schools with waiting lists?

Where do you live?

There will be spaces in at least one Stockport school I'm sure as not all over subscribed. But would depend how far you prepared to travel & whether it's one you'd consider. I'd say ones like Laurus & priestnall will have wait lists

Stockport council confirmed they only have limited spaces in 3 schools. All of which are underperforming schools.

It appears that unless you apply to a popular school for year 7 entry you don’t have much chance of obtaining a good school further down the line. And that goes for state and private options around south Manchester. It would be interesting to know how often places come up in the private schools after year 7 entry.
