GCSE certificates From last year

Just got an email with dates for dc2’s GCSEs, prom, special assemblies and stuff and then it said about collection of their certificates.

DC1 did theirs last year and I’ve just realised they haven’t had their certificates.

Did your dc get theirs from last year?

No, because our school holds onto them until they leave. Mine went into 6th form in that school so they still have his certs.

ShowOfHands · 15/05/2023 22:10

The school should keep them for 12 months from the date of issue. They need to be collected by the student or the student gives written permission for somebody to collect on their behalf. Ring and ask.

LookOutBandits · 15/05/2023 22:12

Yes, the student has to go and collect them. Our school just keeps them forever otherwise.

Twisyturn · 15/05/2023 22:17

Oh that’s good I’ll email them tomorrow. I didn’t know if there was some delay or anything different due to covid.

We got ours in autumn, I think it was November. They were allocated a day or two to go and pick them up, and also collect any art and design coursework. School wrote to us about it so I think it's bad form if they don't let you know, given the focus schools place on exam results.

Fullofpudding · 15/05/2023 22:25

Yes I collected my DS ones in November.

EversoDisorganised · 15/05/2023 22:29

My DCs picked theirs up (GCSEs and A levels, different schools) in November.

hmb255 · 15/05/2023 22:39

Make sure you do collect them as they cost a bomb to replace.

caringcarer · 15/05/2023 22:56

My son got his post to him in November.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 15/05/2023 22:57

Completely forgot that we hadn’t had DS’s; he stayed at the same school for 6th form so hopefully it’s that 🤷‍♀️

MrsAvocet · 15/05/2023 23:01

You've just made me realise that I haven't seen DS's. That's not to say he hasn't got them mind you - they may be under his bed or something! I must remember to ask him in the morning.

Justwingingit2005 · 15/05/2023 23:04

My DSs school emailed Nov to say they were ready for collection.

TeenDivided · 16/05/2023 07:04

They are made available in November after all the reviews etc are done.
They won't (shouldn't) let you the parent collect them, they have to be collected by the pupil or pupil arrange for them to be sent.

redskylight · 16/05/2023 07:41

DC got theirs in early December. There was a letter in with their results saying that they could pick them up from x date. I can see that lots of people (particularly those who left the school) would have missed it!

SoupDragon · 16/05/2023 07:44

Please make sure you track them down!

DS2 was responsible for his and I didn't realise I'd never seen them until he had to prove he'd got GCSE English for a job offer after he'd graduated 🤦🏻‍♀️ We had to pay to have a "certificate" of grades from the examining boards.

SoupDragon · 16/05/2023 07:46

I've just checked and DD's from last year are where I expected them to be. She brought them home from school before Christmas.
