Hi all,

Can I check re everyone's experience of atom scores for the ISEB test. My DD has been scoring very well but wondering how close to the actual ISEB exam it is. (Jags is our target school for context).

Any knowledge gratefully received.

Have you asked Atom the scores recommended as a target for Jags? My dd found Atom very helpful for her exam prep. She got into all the schools she applied to. I think as long as you reach the target scores you have a very good chance of getting in.

Thank you. I have emailed Atom directly this evening also. Wasn't sure if people's real life view may be different to the company though.

Some people think Atom gives higher scores and you do not need to obtain that high. However, my view is better safe then sorry! The schools we were targeting had a target range from 117-125+ By the time of exams my dd scores range for Math late 130s-142. English 130s. Verbal/nonverbal 118-123. She got into all 4 schools she applied to. I found it useful having the target scores so we knew if we were being realistic or not. I am not sure if people who got lower scores got into the schools, just giving my experience and that I found it useful having the target scores for each school. If dd was slightly below, I would still apply anyway, as you never know.

We found Atom scores to be a bit all over the place - scoring 142 one day, then 107 the next, for supposedly the same subject. I wouldn't place too much credence in their predictive value...

That said, DD found the practice useful and the little videos helped on some tricky areas - it definitely increased her confidence.

Not ISEB but my son did a bit better on the day than the atom scores would suggest in case that helps.

Can I please check those of you using Atom and the scores your child is getting to make sure I am looking at this right.

My son is currently scoring ~120 on most mock tests. This shows 8 on the stanine graph and he is getting ~85% correct answers.

Those of you whose child is scoring 130+ - does this mean your child is scoring close to 100% of the questions correctly? In which case that seems to be what competitive most schools are looking for?

@roses2 my son got 100% right on one of the maths mocks and got 142 and was 9 on the stanine graph.

I think as it gets harder the more that they get right - you can still get 142 without full marks. He did different on in English - his weaker area and got 138 with about three answers wrong - can't remember exactly.

It depends what tests you are doing on Atom. As for scores, it also depends what schools you are applying to. Super selective, then 125+ or even 130. If you ask Atom, they will give you the target score for your school to aim for.

Yes, exactly this. You can get a 142 even if you get one or more wrong if you have reached the harder questions worth more points.
