Harrow School vs Rugby School

Hi MNetter's!

DS is currently at a fee paying day school in the Midlands. We have been offered Harrow Boys school and Rugby School for year 9 entry. Does anyone have experience of either of the schools please?

DS is a bit of an all rounder, good kid, not highly academic so I dont want him to feel out of place. We are also, not overly wealthy so we dont want him to feel out of place surrounded by lots of rich kids either! He's not scholorship material and we dont qualify for a bursery so we will be making quite big financial sacrifices to send him to either one of these schools. Are these sacrifices worth it and what can Harrow or Rugby bring to the table which an independent day school cant?

Now we are holding both offers, it feels very real and we are not really sure if the financial sacrifice is really worth it espeically with the increase in cost of living and inflation. Neither of the schools have released their 2023/2024 fees as yet which could increase a further 10% and for the next 5 years.

Though on the otherhand it is doable and I feel we would be mad to turn these places down too, we are stuggling to weigh up whether it really is worth it!

Hi, we had a similar problem. My son had offers to Harrow, Abingdon and Whitgift, We have decided on Whitgift day as it is literally half the cost as full boarding at Harrow. The education and sports are also incredible.

Personally I would go to a day school but if Harrow and Rugby were the choice I would go for Rugby. Harrow is getting a lot more international these days while Rugby generally has more down to earth types. Personally I prefer coed for boys too. Also don’t underestimate the value of having a school that is relatively close, you will be back and forth an awful lot.

Are you aware that there is a Boarding School topic these days. Caveat: I haven't read much but I presume that it is frequented by those who have DC who board so the advice will be slanted that way.

What did you decide in the end?

And all good so far (if you don't mind me asking).

Hello Mums, I know this is an old thread but going through rugby school’s sports offering and they have XX, LXX and DB. Figured out that XX and LXX are sixth form but no clue what DB is. Will appreciate any help.

Rugby call y9 F block, y10 E block and y11 D block. DB must stand for D block so y11.

Hi

@Chilli2005 is your son happy there- is it everything you hoped it would be?
