Waiting Lists

Hi everyone
Has anyone been offered a place of the waiting list for 2023 admissions?
or has anyone in the past been admitted of the waiting list - what position were you and when did they offer?
thanks!

We got an offer off the waiting list in the April of the year we had applied for dd1. Can't remember what position we were at the time. Then we got another offer for a different school in July, which is the school she currently attends.

I wouldn't personally give up hope until August tbh!

We had this last year for my DD. She was third on the waiting list after allocation day in March. She moved to second place quite quickly, but didn't actually get a place until the last week of the summer term!!

A friend got offered a place October half term. She took it. (Had been homeschooling to that point, in the hope a place became available)

My DC got offered a place in mid August. A couple of other friends got a place in the first weeks of September. Difficult to say what position we were as it changed a lot. We went up and down as people joined.

I had friends on a waitlist last year, they actually went down in April after the late applications were added to the list. It was demoralising for them. They did eventually get their DD on their second favourite school around July time but it was a bit of a rollercoaster.

Yes, this week my dd was offered a place at our second choice school. Prior to that, we'd been 20th on the list. A number of her friends who were after us on the list also got offered places, so I'm assuming they decided to add an extra class. Admissions locally have been an absolute mess this year owing to numbers, with every single school over subscribed and many, including us, initially being offered a school not from our list of preferences.

That’s very similar to our borough - places are very tight this year.
Please to hear some positive outcomes - the waiting game is so painful!

@Hunter2501 The waiting has been very stressful, I completely sympathise! Fingers crossed for you. Are you appealing? We'd submitted appeal requests and had been busily prepping for them after reading a lot of excellent advice on here.

Hunter2501 · 02/04/2023 20:56

I haven’t appealed, mainly because I have no grounds for appeal other than preference. She’s been given a place in an outstanding school, so I can’t really complain, it’s just not the school her friends are going to.

We too are in the waiting game. Sadly we have down in the list and then back up which is demoralising. I just can’t see where a lot of movement is going to come from at this stage. A few maybe with the grammars around us offering but their catchment is so wide so it probably won’t make much of a difference. And privates seem to be mostly done now as well

It popped up my Timehop today that we received the offer for our 3rd choice waitlist place today 5 years ago. We were number 3 on that one, a week later we got school 2 offer and school 1 offer came just before term started.
