Solihull Waiting Lists - Help Needed!

MorganCity · 22/03/2023 10:51

Hey,

Does anyone have any recent experience of the sort of waiting lists numbers which end up being accepted before term start in Sept?

Ideally looking for info regarding schools like Alderbrook, Arden, Tudor Grange etc

It's so hard to know whether being top 20 on a waiting lists is 'nailed on' to get a place or 'no hope'. Any advice or experiences would be so appreciated.

Thanks

James

Hi,
We’ve been offered TG and are 23rd on waiting list for Arden and 47th for Alderbrook

Hunter2501 · 22/03/2023 17:30

But to answer your question, I don’t know if we have any hope or not, I guess it changes each year

MorganCity · 22/03/2023 21:11

Is TG not your preferred choice then?

Thanks

Are you in catchment for any of these schools? What did you get offered?

Hunter2501 · 22/03/2023 22:13

Hiya
We are just about in catchment for TG, she goes to a feeder for Arden so naturally wanted to go there with her friends. Not really bothered about Alderbrook, got a nice feel on the open evening but even if she got Alderbrook I’d probably stick with TG now.

Solihull has quite a bit of churn due to the number of private schools in the area, but still hard to say. Where have you been offered?

TG has always been an excellent school, I'm not sure it has really shaken off the reputation of being the old grammar school with AB running behind as the old secondary modern. I can't believe it has only taken until the last couple of years to finally ditch the awful green blouses though.

Which school are you nearest OP? We got Arden due to location, not catchment.

I understand it is a bulge year nationally which might impact

if you don’t mind me asking - do they have siblings at the school or go to a feeder primary? Was Arden your first choice?

Nailsandthesea · 24/03/2023 22:53

TG is the best in that area

Neither. We practically live on the school's doorstep, but it felt like a bit of a gamble. 2 siblings following in, so we can breathe out for them unless they change the admission criteria

Hunter2501 · 25/03/2023 14:52

Oh so you live in Arden’s catchment? It’s a lovely school, I’m sure they’ll do really well

Hi
just to give some hope - we were 23rd for Arden originally and were offered a place last week. Turning it down in favour of TG (after all of that stress DD wants to go to TG!) But maybe this post will give hope to current and future children who are wait listed.

Pleased that your DD is now happy with her school place, TG is a great school.

Your experience shows though that waiting lists can move quite quickly.
