CLSG occasional vacancy for Year 9

Looking for insights from parents who may have sat their girls for occasional vacancy for Year 9 at CLCG.

We had registered our daughter at the start of Year 7 as we were quite keen on CLSG for her.

She isn’t unhappy at her current school; good days and bad days.

CLSG contacted us a few weeks back asking if we are still keen. We spoke to our daughter who is surprisingly very keen to write it. I think she sees it as an opportunity to see if she has improved from her 11 plus performance (she struggled that year for various reasons and didn’t get the offers she was hoping for). She has been going over 13+ papers on her own for the last couple of weeks. No pressure from us - she found the papers on her own.

Given how keen she is, we would be grateful for insights from parents who went through this process and got through interview and offer. What did your daughter do to prepare for the tests? We’ve had nothing from CLSG - just that they will test her on Math, English, modern language and general knowledge. If she clears the tests, they will invite her for an interview. Oddly, they have already reached out to her current school for reference.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Don't have any specific advice but sounds like she should go for it

Thanks very much. We are going ahead as my daughter is keen. I hope she can deal with the outcome either way!
We also just saw an email from CLSG. For future posters: this time round, they will be testing the girls on math, English, modern foreign language and “general paper”. All in all half a day of tests. Assume general paper will be VR and NVR. The whole process should be done in 2 weeks if my daughter makes the interview round. I hope she does!

one of mine is year 10 at CLSG and says there were a couple of new girls joined in yr 9 and they've integrated well. and we are very happy with the school so I hope it works out for you.

Mine are not yet that age but a boarding school DD1 sat this year for 11+ had a general paper, in additonal to English and Math - it was general knowledge, e.g. who was our prime minister 2 prime ministers ago, which country is mount Everest in, questions on Solar system, some questions on Greek mythology, capitals etc. We didn't know what it was going to be so didn't prepare for it at all but I think reading / watching news and maybe some engaging encyclopedias should help (if it is this type of paper). VR/NVR were also tested but I believe it was a separate paper.

Thank you - that is super helpful!
