Strode College - opinions please!

Hi,

I'm looking for any opinions on Strode College in Street please? Specifically Performing Arts courses for school leavers if possible but any general thoughts would be very helpful.

I can see the Ofsted was 'Good' overall but the provision for high needs learners was 'required improvement' which has dragged it down.

We're trying to find a college for our daughter who would like to do a Level 3 qualification in PA. Looking around Wells.

Thanks so much.

Anyone out there who has experience of Strode?

I have a friend with a daughter there doing uniformed public services and they're really pleased with it so far.

My eldest went there a few years ago for A levels and it was fantastic then. Have friends who's children are there now doing A level courses and they are struggling with staff leaving. With a couple of A levels not being taught by staff there and students following online courses with little support and guidance.

Thanks so much for your replies. I really appreciate it.

My sociology teacher left when I did A Levels and I had to go to one hour a week learning for second year and it was awful so not keen for that to be my daughter's experience!

It seems there is very little choice of college in that area. Just Strode and The Blue School really? Public transport seems to dictate the lack of choice I think?

Wow so weird seeing this thread pop up! I went there 25 years ago!

I had a great time and did very well academically.

But nothing helpful to say about current performance - I doubt it's proximity to The Street Inn is still considered a selling point 🤣

My friend is in Shepton and they also looked at Bridgwater and Bath, but you're looking at 40 minutes each way for those, so for closeness Strode is probably preferable.
