Just that really.

Have you applied in your catchment or further?

Anyone thinking they will have to appeal or do you know you will definitely get a space due to catchment / sibling?

Haha 0.0000001%

It's catholic, we aren't. No sibling link. Their oversubscription criteria has 13 levels. Dd is level 13 Grin

So she will literally only get in if they are not oversubscribed. Which would be rare.

Happily option 2 is the local feeder and perfectly acceptable alternate.

AnonymousArabella · 25/02/2023 19:33

Fairly good as she’s in a feeder school but we do live a bit away so it’s a little uncertain (would have just about squeezed in last year and that was a higher birth rate year so should be ok).

I hope so because - even though I don’t love the first choice school - there are no other alternatives nearby that won’t be full up on faith places. So we didn’t really have a choice / any other possible options.

If she doesn’t get a place we’ll definitely be appealing as anywhere else she might be sent is miles away & completely unsuitable.

Thingsthatgo · 25/02/2023 19:38

About 95% certain based on distance, and both DS and I would be happy with our second choice too.

Still nervous though...our third choice would be awful and I would definitely be joining a waiting list.

snowtrees · 25/02/2023 19:40

100%. We live close & sibling there.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 25/02/2023 19:41

As certain as it is possible to be really. Faith school and although we are not that faith dc attends the faith feeder school and has a sibling link. There are never any issues with kids in feeder schools not getting in so we should be fine.

Rockbird · 25/02/2023 19:42

She'll definitely get option 1 as we're in catchment and DD1 is there. However, although it's an outstanding school DD1 is ND and has had a horrendous time there so I'm starting to panic a little although DD2 is NT.

BeingAwake · 25/02/2023 19:44

I'm really not sure. Don't want to get my hopes up.

If your ND child is having an horrendous time there, why on earth is she still there?!

FeinCuroxiVooz · 25/02/2023 19:59

good luck everyone.

just a reminder - if you aren't happy with the school you are assigned accept the place anyway - accepting the place doesn't affect the outcome of any appeals or waiting list requests, but if you don't accept the offered place you could end up with somewhere even worse / just as bad but further away.

Don't despair - there's always a second round of allocations and you may be lucky then.

if you need to appeal remember that you have to appeal for the school you want and why it's so much a perfect fit for your child. appealing against the school you don't want will not work.

101 reasons, we battle with the school every single day. We're both working and we can't afford to take her out and put her into online schooling which is what the ideal would be. School are refusing an EHCP (we have just now learnt we can request one ourselves) and without that we were told nothing would be funded. But that's a whole other thread.

Thank you for this, really helpful ❤️

FusionChefGeoff · 25/02/2023 20:26

Our top choice is head and shoulders above the others (as well as being 5 minutes walk away) and always is / has been. It's a complete lottery and they say chances are 1 in 7 or 1 in 8.

We therefore deliberately chose what we hope is a 'banker' as 2nd that wasn't oversubscribed last year but we are a little further way away.

Unbeknownst to us when we moved, we're in a bit of a hole when it comes to distance.

We're geared up for the appeal already!

Boomboom22 · 25/02/2023 20:34

I really really hope so, it's quite far away but the only one he can get to under his own steam. The bus to no 2 has been cancelled. We are quite rural so the closest ones are impossible to get to unless you can drive them or they can cycle but no pavements so I didn't list them. I work in a grammar so can't drive him, unfortunately he was a few marks off what I would think worth appealing and would fit well in 1st choice.

WoWsers16 · 25/02/2023 20:43

Luckily 100% I hope!
Sibling, in catchment and husband works there! So 3 of the top 3 requirements! Xx

Looking forward to getting it confirmed though! X

99%. Ehcp states it, but they need to be consulted.
It's DC's first choice, not sure it's mine though, so reserving judgement.

UsernameOfMine · 25/02/2023 21:46

Choice 1 & 2 I am 99.99% sure she will be offered a place at. They're grammars which are linked. She was high enough rank... Everyone below her would need to want their place AND quite a lot of PP children for her not to get one of them.

Choice 2 usually fills up quicker with more stating it as their top choice. So we are more likely to be offered choice 1. So I'm quietly confident.

If DC has an EHCP you should already have the finalised amended EHCP naming the secondary placement as the LA legally have to finalise secondary phase transfer reviews by 15th February. If the school is named in the EHCP the school must admit.

TwoForTheDough · 25/02/2023 22:08

There's always the waiting list for those who don't get their first place. Some places they might not move much, but I'm in London and got our first choice via the waiting list in August. I know kids were still joining my DC's class well into September.

Same. Not that my eldest is enjoying it there 😬 but I know it’ll be great for my younger DC (eldest needs an apprenticeship asap!)

Thanks for this info. Very useful. I was wondering what to do in terms of accepting the place if it isnt the school we want.

ShowOfHands · 25/02/2023 22:26

First choice: unlikely we will get in despite it being our closest school and I work there. DD attends but is y11 so no priority.

Second choice: unlikely, oversubscribed.

Third choice: almost definite that he'll get in (catchment school).

I know. There's been a fuck up somewhere and they consulted a different school, not the one named on his EHCP that we'd also put as first choice on the online school application, but the one put down as second choice on the online application.

No idea what happened, but we got an email yesterday saying they'll consulted first choice school now. Took us 2 weeks of back and forth emails to get to this point.

CatMattress · 25/02/2023 22:30

They also didn't make other amendments to his EHCP that we submitted in early December, but that's by the by as regards this subject. As long as his new school gets the updated copy before he starts. Since he's had an additional diagnosis which wasn't included. Sigh.

JustKeepBuilding · 25/02/2023 22:31

If your preferred school is named in the EHCP the school have to admit. Unless they are wholly independent the LA can name them even if they object.

CatMattress · 25/02/2023 22:37

Interesting. What if they feel they can't meet DC's needs? Would we be informed of this?
