Hampton, KGS or Tiffin?

I was hoping for some advice on what I should do for my son, who will be starting year 7 this September. He’s an August birthday, so young in the year, quite shy and not at all sporty. He has offers from Hampton and KGS and I think there’s a reasonable chance that he will get an offer from Tiffin. I could easily drive him to Tiffin or KGS and there is a bus stop for Hampton just down the road. We can afford the fees although do have other children. If you were us, which school would you choose?

My DS just received his letter from Tiffin stating he has a score of 102 and the cut off for the 180 places was 104. Eek! Anyone have any thoughts on his chances?!

I'd have thought you had a good chance. When DS sat it the score was 106. He got 105 and was offered a place about 4 weeks after offer day, which I suspect was the first round of WL offers.

I think there were 10 or so movement places in my sons year that were offered later

Also- if you go on the eleven plus forum website they have people who analyse the figures year after year and will probably be able to help you!

Yes as another poster says get on the elevenplusexams website Surrey forum, there is a poster already there with 102, your ds should get a place, just a matter of waiting it out.

@FuchisaGroan @99I Did you take the offer for Hampton? If so, would love to connect! :)

Sorry to bump but we're in the same position this year - DS has accepted a place at Hampton, been offered a waitlist place at Tiffin and I'm torn!

He's got his heart set on Hampton but I just need to be absolutely certain that it isn't a crazy thing to do to turn down Tiffin. Financially, grandparents have offered to pay the fees so it isn't as big a consideration as it would have been, but it's hard knowing what the right course of action is.

Would love to hear your experience now that your DSes have chosen and experienced their secondary schools!

Tiffin all the way! Might be a less popular opinion but I believe going private is more helpful at primary years. At the secondary age, children need to and should be mature enough to motivate themselves, and having a good peer group should suffice.
Also because I'm not a fan of the idea travelling to Hampton. Compared to Kingston town centre it's just too isolated.
