Anyone know of a good GCSE summer course in London for a student in between Y10 & Y11?

In what subjects? For what purpose?

VashtaNerada · 18/02/2023 07:09

Core subjects probably but History or Art also welcome! I’m sceptical of tutors generally as anyone can be a tutor (I know some are excellent, my point is you don’t know that unless you have a recommendation though). The purpose being to boost confidence and consolidate knowledge.

That's not really a thing. No qualified teacher or tutor would run that. You'd be better off vetting a tutor properly. Summer clubs are not really for that age unless it's sports or scouts as they can stay home alone.

it is a thing, there are many summer crammers, but sorry, I cant recommend any personally

Have you asked the school for advice?

There are lots at private schools near us in the Easter hols. Of course it's a thing.

Oxford university used to do gcse and a level crammer courses in the easter holidays. Not sure if they do them now

VashtaNerada · 18/02/2023 07:30

School aren’t fans of tuition generally as it’s very hard to assess the quality of the teaching. I just thought if someone’s child had recently completed a good one it would be useful to know. DC responds much better to small group teaching and could do with a boost to confidence.

Oxford do not run gcse crammers. They do run summer schools from yr10 up to try and open up the aspirations of children whose parents didn't go to uni. They categorically do not run sessions to tutor in specific gcse as revision. That would not be in the ethos of top universities.

mumonthehill · 18/02/2023 12:55

@Boomboom22 i only mentioned it as many years ago i went to Oxford at easter and did Maths crammer for gcse and then went for English lit A level. It was brilliant.
