South Hampstead High School (SHHS) waiting list

DD was placed in the waiting list of SHHS. Does anyone know if SHHS is making a lot of offers more than the available places and if there are any chances for the waiting list to move?

Same here.
I'm thinking that I should ask the school about the position of DD.

laughinglemons · 20/02/2023 14:31

Any news? My niece is in the same position

Mrseven · 20/02/2023 15:51

Yes it will move. A lot of offer holder days are this week so there will be movement from the end of the week. They're also calling those with offers who haven't shown up to the open morning to nudge them along. It's all happening.

laughinglemons · 21/02/2023 17:40

Thank you for this. I can’t imagine anyone wouldn’t want to accept their place!

Thank you for this. I can’t imagine anyone wouldn’t want to accept their place!

A lot of applicants also have offers from CLSG, NLCS, etc so it's not always an easy choice.

Good luck!

Thank you Mrseven . G&L even. I am all about local. It’s baffling to me but I appreciate I am in the minority. I am posting for my niece. My daughter is next year…

Does anyone know if the SHHS waiting list has moved? We still have not heard anything from the school :(

WingingIt79 · 06/03/2023 12:31

Deadline for acceptance was noon today, so I imagine there could be some movement. Good luck!!!

Lndner12 · 07/03/2023 12:57

I assume no movement there.

shhs · 07/03/2023 16:20

I called the admission yesterday who told me that they are not going to make a WL offer to my DD.

That's a shame.

I called the admission yesterday who told me that they are not going to make a WL offer to my DD.

I’m sorry - have they sent an email to all of the wl candidates yet? We haven’t heard anything final from our wl school and I find it annoying.

Hi, I have a dyslexic DD that will be sitting the consortium exam at the end of the year our preferred schools are SHHS and FHRP is that realistic? Do these schools welcome dyslexics? She is very sporty and driven but struggles with English as you would expect.
any advice welcome! Thank you

Dodgeitornot · 09/03/2023 12:24

@GNW3mum Depends how dyslexic surely? It's a pretty big spectrum.

GNW3mum · 09/03/2023 12:29

she is in an independent prep
school doing well with the support of a dyslectic tutor, so I guess she is mildly dyslexic

laughinglemons · 12/03/2023 14:55

My niece didn’t get an WL offer from SHHS either.

I would ask her prep school

ChickenSoupAndLokshen · 12/03/2023 18:29

@GNW3mum my DD sat for two schools in the consortium - including FHS - and received offers from both. She is dyslexic and has an assessment confirming this and outlines the support she needs. She had 25% extra time for the entrance exam. Both schools were very supportive and have offered extra support, etc. should she need it.

Hitoyou · 13/03/2023 09:36

@GNW3mum My daughter sat 11+ this year, she qualified for 25% extra time due to slow processing speed and mild dyslexia. We didn't apply to SHHS as I thought it was too much of a stretch academicaly but we did apply to FHRP. I found they were excelent. It was my daughter's first interview (they are the beginning of Jan ) and it was by the SEN teacher who couldn't have been kinder or nicer. Plus we got an offer. It was by far the best school as far as I could see at taking account of her needs.

EKLondon23 · 13/03/2023 10:59

My daughter is in Y8 at SHHS. We couldn’t be happier with the school.

Having said that, they have just completed the inspection by ISI. SEN is the (only) area of improvement for the school. I think they recently hired a new SEN specialist so there will be increased focus going forward.

Dodgeitornot · 13/03/2023 11:18

@GNW3mum I think you can probably find more supportive girls schools in terms of SEN, that also get great results. We found FHRP and More House Pont Street really great in terms of support offered and exam results.
It's not just the support offered that matters for kids with Dyslexia, it's also the overall attitude towards it in school. If she's one of the few, what will she feel like? Is there an overall acceptance of SEN or is this seen as something that makes you weird and stupid? Will she be embarrassed to take the 25% extra time? In internal exams they normally have to go after school to finish the exam with extra time as most lessons are n hour. Will she be the only one doing that? How will that make her feel?
You need to think about all of this, not just the support offered in the school.

GNW3mum · 14/03/2023 01:57

Thank you so much for your very encouraging responses! We love FH we are going to visit tomorrow. Fingers crossed we can find the right school for her. I m finding prepping for the 11 plus with a dislexic child very challenging. English and VR is like torture for her

bjmin · 14/03/2023 16:24

we never got the WL offer from SHHS. brilliant school.
