My daughter has offers of the above schools. It's a difficult decision for me. Could anyone give me suggestions? Thank you so much

Is this for boarding? If so then roedean as it has much more boarding infrastructure

popeyecc · 09/02/2023 10:59

Yes, I am looking for full boarding.
Are they good at academic?

OP posts:
afewtoomanychoices · 09/02/2023 15:08

Yes . It’s not in same league as Wycombe abbey for example but it is definitely an academic school and wonderful grounds and facilities

popeyecc · 10/02/2023 04:58

Thanks for your respone. You means Roedean is an academic school and wonderful grounds and facilities?

Thank you!

Have you not looked at both schools? Which one did you prefer?

popeyecc · 10/02/2023 05:34

Yes, I have looked the 2022 GCSE and A-Level results up on the best-schools.com.hk.

Roedean
By GCSE: A+A*, 84.54%
By A-Level: A+A*, 70.14%

Talbot Heath
By GCSE: A+A*, 55.35%
By A-Level: A+A*, 44.92%

Of course, it depends the number of candidates. I don't know if it can help.

Roedean is a full boarding school with around 50% boarders and Talot Heath only with around 7% boarders. So, it is also my hesitation.

afewtoomanychoices · 10/02/2023 06:09

So I assume you haven’t visited in person. Yes my comment about academics and facilities is correct

popeyecc · 10/02/2023 06:29

You're right. I have not visited in person for both schools.
That's why taking your advice here.

A milion thanks

Two VERY different schools ..
You need to visit
TH around £10,000 a term full boarding
R up to £5000 more ( depends on year group )

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 10/02/2023 08:15

I don't know about Talot but my daughter is a day-pupil at Roedean and it really is a fantastic school. She is very happy there and making great academic progress.

popeyecc · 10/02/2023 09:00

It sounds great.

How about the teachers at Roedean? Are they supporting students? How about the learning environment?

Thank you in advance

Teachers are great, make themselves available to pupils who want extra explanation of a topic if needed. Can't fault it.

dcadmamagain · 10/02/2023 09:35

How old is your daughter? Is she an international student? The boarders st Talbot Heath are almost all international or part of the tennis academy.

popeyecc · 10/02/2023 10:07

@thirdistheonewiththehairychest 😍Great!!! Your reponsd is a great help to me. Thank you so much.

@dcadmamagain Yes, my DG is an international student.

OP posts:
dcadmamagain · 10/02/2023 10:33

As your daughter is international I would recommend roedean if she is highly academic and Talbot Heath if she is not so academic so she can keep up with the work and not feel too pressured. Talbot Heath is a lot smaller and more nurturing for internationals.

the fees are very different in both schools too…

You also need to sign up to a guardianship organisations as she will need a guardian whilst here - Bright World Guardians are highly recommended.

popeyecc · 10/02/2023 12:14

@dcadmamagain Are you using the Bright World Guardians? If yes, are they helpful in an emergency?
I am currently doing research for guardians in the UK.

OP posts:
dcadmamagain · 10/02/2023 13:54

Yes Bright World guardians are really really good. They have excellent emergency procedures including hosting students if contagious diseases and school can’t keep them there and they have trained guardians and host families in mental health care as well. Highly recommend.

popeyecc · 11/02/2023 03:31

@dcadmamagain Thank you for your information. Let me have a look 😊

@thirdistheonewiththehairychest

As I know school provided minibus service each summer. Are they provide each term ends also? Thank you

Not sure what you mean exactly, but my daughter gets the minibus to and from school every day. And they do an escort service to London Victoria every Friday and Sunday.

Here is the info: roedean.co.uk/school-life/travel-to-school/

DD is a boarder at Roedean and I can highly recommend it. Excellent academically and brilliant support for all girls. House mistresses really care about the girls and they have a wide network of friends in the house. There are 4 houses, in my daughters house there are about 50 boarders, a mix of UK and international, full, weekly and flexi boarders. DD is very happy.

popcc · 25/02/2023 03:40

@Pierpaddle It sounds great!!! I hope I've made the correct decision for my DD.

Pierpaddle · 25/02/2023 07:22

@popcc i can see you referenced a HK website for the academic results. If your daughter is from HK and joins Roedean she’ll be joining a large community of girls from HK. My daughter (UK boarder) is friends with so many girls from HK and whilst there’s a large community of HK girls they all integrate with the girls of all nationalities.

popcc · 25/02/2023 07:42

@Pierpaddle Yes, my DD is come from HK. I was wondering if you could let me know the academic results from your side (as I referenced a HK website only).

Indeed, are there so many HK girls at Roedean? Are they get on well with their peer group?

Pierpaddle · 25/02/2023 11:31

@popcc i will send you a private message
