When do we know about states sixth forms offers

DD is currently at a independent school; she has applied to various state sixth forms as well as her current school.

When does she get the offers? And when so we have to make a decision and tell her current school so we are not committed to one terms fee; I believe we have a deposit as well which we want back

There’s no set date so you would need to ask each place individually.

Most sixth forms will be giving conditional offers now based on her predicted grades. The actual offer is usually given when they receive GCSE results dependant on what grades have actually been received, if some are lower than required for a course then usually an alternative course will be offered at that time.

Normal notice period is something like last day of the Easter term to leave end of summer term isn't it?

State sixth forms are responsible for their own offers and there is no set date. Usually you would accept the offer (indeed, my daughter accepted several from different schools) but you wouldn't be expected to formally commit to joining the school until you had the grades in hand and the place is therefore confirmed.

Your complicating factor is the contract you have with your current independent school. If you give them notice on Results Day that your child won't be coming back in September, of course they will bill you for the term / take your deposit or whatever their terms set out - but if you tell them now that you're leaving and then your DC doesn't get the grades for the place elsewhere, you might be a bit stuck.

Thank you. Will ask the school to send us the contract. Haven’t received any conditional offers yet but she is predicted good grades but that’s no guarantee as it depends on distance, number of applications, etc

The dates do vary by school - one has offered already, another won't offer until the end of March

Thank you; hopefully will hear by the end of March. Current school told us we need to give notice by 24th of April.
