Tiffin Boys Sixth Form - any interview invitations yet?

DC is applying to Tiffin Boys Sixth Form. A friend's DC applied a couple of years ago and was invited to interview in February. If your DC is applying, have you heard anything yet?

My child has also applied for Tiffin with decent enough grades achieving the requirements for his courses he wants to do. Also, do remember that people in the priority area are ranked higher than those who do not. Do you guys live within the priority area? We do but we have not received an email but also remember that they had many applications this year. Hopefully both our children are able to get in😁

Hi, yes, we're in the inner area. We still haven't heard anything about an interview, but it looks like some people have: www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7316229#post98095420

This means interviews can come at anytime. What are your sons predicted grades looking like as this might result in his interview to come soon?
but anyways the least we can do is pray and believe

Straight 9 predictions here, but I heard they were oversubscribed on straight 9 predictions last year. Not sure what they do in those circumstances as if there are more straight 9's than places their oversubscription policy has no way of prioritising them.

Ah, I guess they use this: "If there is a tie for the final place, the place will be offered to the applicant who lives nearest to Tiffin School, using a standard method of measuring home to school distance."

@flayverofdamunth , whilst unofficial it's been mentioned on other threads and my friend had it possibly happen with her dd at Tiffin girls - it depends a bit on A level selection esp if maths/chem have been chosen and they are already been filled by current students at Tiffin. If you are choosing less popular a levels you may have more chance.

flayverofdamunth · 24/02/2023 08:18

@redrobin75 that is true - it is in the policy - but it's not very clear whether they apply it now or in August. At this stage they don't know what their internal takeup of places will be.

About the all 9s oversubscription issue, it's all a combination of (and I quote) form (interests, etc), reference (from school) and report. This is what it said on an invite for Tiffin a friend of mine got recently regarding and invitation for an interview (He got majority 9s predicted and some 8s). Hope that helps :)

Also, I think that the form (awards and leadership roles especially)that you apply is equally important as grades as someone in my year also got an invitation with a lowest predicted grade of a 6 with the rest 7,8,9 but had good achievement - 8 in Computing GCSE he did in Yr 9, Gold Award in IMC in Yr 10, to name a few.
Good luck with your application🙏

LaBaguette · 28/02/2023 18:38

I forgot to add that he got in to the most competitive courses (Physics, Chem, Maths+Further Maths) so I think his form was very helpful in getting him an invitation.

I could be completely wrong tho, just merely an observation

My son is also applying for quite competitive subjects (biology, chemistry, maths) and his predicted grades are promising with 1 9, 3 8’s and 5 7’s. But you also have to take in the fact of people “who are within the priority area are ranked above those who are not” so this basically means a straight 9’a student who lives outside of the area is placed below anyone who lives within the area. ( I think) so living within the area also boosts your chances and again like you said, your application may also have a part of your admission aswell as Grades because tiffin wants the most hard working high achieving students🤷‍♀️
