How do DCs prepare for UKMT challenge?

DD is in year 7 and trying some of the past junior challenges paper. She is able to attempt, mostly successfully, about first half to two thirds of the questions. And then getting stuck in the later questions, unable to progress without some clues from us.

They are really nice and interesting problems, but typically not the types covered in classroom lessons.

So the question is, how did your DC build skills in solving such questions? Are there books specifically for such papers? Where can we get more similar quality questions?

You will find plenty of information here: www.ukmt.org.uk/jmc

I would recommend your daughter approaches her maths teacher in the first instance to get help with questions she finds tricky. However, being in Y7 means she would not have covered some of the topics to answer some of the last few questions.

thank you, @Whitesleeves , I will go through the site. And you are right, perhaps best if she speaks to her teacher.

Dr Frost (free) has all the past UKMT questions online, grouped by topic and difficulty level.

Is it working? It haven't been for me for some time (for a few weeks at least)

No idea. Have you reported it? I'm sure they'll fix it if they know about it.

We didn't do any prep but sometimes complete parallelogram online - it may or may not help
