Does anyone have experience of schools in Brockley? My daughter and family are looking to move there but she doesn’t know anything about the schools. The DC will be starting primary soon but they are hoping to be in the area long term. It’s Tressilian Road area of Brockley. Thanks in advance.

It has a very small catchment area, but I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned Addey and Stanhope I'm New Cross Road. It's a really exceptional school - it gets good results and the pastoral care is renowned across Lewisham.

So glad to know your academic DS did so well at Deptford Green School, but what year was it? Back then their ofsted rating was poor and despite that you chose to send your academically high child there. Are their academics and provisions just as good now or has it gone downhill over the years?

I think it is a good school in its own right, and offers a lot.

There was a stage when many Tel Hill folks who weren't keen on Habs - esp those whose kids had been through Edmund Waller - opted for Deptford Green. I feel like there's a bit less of that now. Kingsdale is the flavour of the month, but it runs on a lottery entry so whether Habs is then the second choice or not - I'm not sure.

The issue with Kingsdale is that every child has to study at least 2 modern foreign languages, even if that’s not something they want to do. Whereas Deptford Green has exempt some students from taking up modern foreign language to focus more on their literacy

I'd say having the option to study two languages is generally a plus point....the options currently are French, Spanish, German or Latin (so it can be just one modern language + latin). Sure some kids won't like it, in the same way they might not like Science, History, Geography, Art, Music, PE etc, all things they do there but it's about opportunity and it's there for those that want it, or can discover it without realising they wanted to.

After Y7 you can keep doing 2, or you can choose to do just one from Y8. In Y7 you have 2 hours of one language and one hour of the other, this then switches over in Y8, unless you opt to do just one.
