We are moving to York - new to the area as have not lived there before and I wonder if anyone could advise on secondary school applications. I can't work out from the schools application guidance on the council website what the chances are of us getting a place at a school out of catchment eg. Fulford.
If we lived slightly out of catchment but not a million miles away do we stand a realistic chance of getting a place?
I'm not from a catchment area at present so I don't understand the reality of these boundaries and the impact on getting the place you would like.
I'd be grateful to anyone with any experience of York secondary schools to shed some light!

No chance of getting into Fulford if you’re out of catchment. Better chance of getting into Archbishop Holgate which is a better “all round” school. Fulford is an exam machine; Archbishops gets excellent exam results without the pressure and offers lots of extra curricular activities too.
