DD has got through to an academic scholarship stage post the exam.

She will go next week for further assessment. I am very proud of her for even getting this far, but if any kind poster has a useful insight into this stage, I would be grateful to hear of it.

Well done to your DD.

My DD2 did this last year and received a scholarship.

The basic run through was she had a further paper to complete at scholarship assessment (think it was maths and NVR) and an interview with the head where she was asked about all sorts (her favourite/least favourite subjects; what did she think about Boris Johnson as PM; choosing a book to read and explaining why she chose it). This was with the old head so the new one may do things differently.

Good luck!

Many thanks! I trust your daughter is flourishing there.

The new head comes from Croydon High and so I think this is very positive for the school.

The new head was schooled at Croydon High but came from Eden Park where she was head. Big early to say how she is doing in the job!

*Bit early

Does anyone know how many they call for academic scholarships typically? Can not find any information about it.

Yale445 · 29/01/2023 22:17

Does anyone know what percentage of reduction in fees you get with an academic scholarship ? I can’t see on the website

Lala29 · 03/02/2023 08:39

I know it’s too late for you, but there’s so little info out there, hopefully it’ll benefit someone else in the future.
my daughter did the academic scholarship. Round 1 included a standard 11+ paper with an essay and maths extension paper, which is optional and she didn’t do it!

Second round was just an interview either with the headmistress or another member of staff. Question included “which female inspires you”, “what should we do about the environment “ and other relevant current affairs topics.
Fees reduction seems to not be uniform and I have heard 5% or 10%. Scholars get lots of extra opportunities and support.

Did your girl get a scholarship? They only offer about 10% for any scholarship... not sure how many girls applied to school this year. I thought co eded and some other schools could give 25% -50%?

Hi! Jumping on an oldish post here! Looking for any insight on the group interview process, we haven’t applied for scholarship but have done entrance exam and next step is this. Want my daughter to be as prepared as possible and wondering what to expect!

Aya2013 · 07/01/2024 14:45

Hi. Does anyone know if the school lets parents know if their children havent got into the second round of the Sports Scholarship or just that if it goes past the middle of January and we do not hear from the school then she hasnt gotten through? My daughter has been invited for a group interview on the 12th but I am not sure if that means shes not through to the next round of the Sports scholarship.

Journey123 · 07/01/2024 19:34

Does anyone know if everyone who sits the exam also gets invited for the group interview?

Positivitywins · 07/01/2024 19:51

I also wondered this as my daughter has been invited and the letter says based on performance in entrance exam..

Journey123 · 07/01/2024 20:08

You're right! Just checked the invite and it does say as a result of performance in the entrance exam. Hopefully that's a positive sign

Positivitywins · 07/01/2024 22:53

Am hoping so! Was wondering if they still invite everyone so don’t want to get my hopes up!

Aya2013 · 08/02/2024 17:15

@Journey123 @Positivitywins how did it go with Bromley Are your girls likely to go there?

Journey123 · 08/02/2024 17:18

Hi @Aya2013, we're deciding between Bromley and Croydon currently. Leaning slightly more towards Croydon but have suggested my DD goes to the offer holders events to make sure

Positivitywins · 08/02/2024 20:29

@Aya2013 hi! Well we were offered on 3 schools and my daughter isn’t keen on all girls so not looking like BH will be the place we ultimately choose! I do like the fact they’re inviting all of the girls in for activities etc, the other 2 haven’t done anything like that upon receiving the offers!

Aya2013 · 08/02/2024 21:30

Thats great. I am sure you will choose the best school for your girls. We are also looking forward to the offer morning. We will make our final choice after that.

I was wondering if anyone could confirm this. My daughter passed the entrance exam and has been invited to a 30 minute small group interview in early January. I couldn’t see anything about interviews on the Bromley High website (other than scholarship interviews) so wasn’t sure if this was a standard part of the application process.

Hi boiroi,
I was wondering the same thing. It didn't say she had passed but presumably had done well enough to be shortlisted for an interview. It doesn't say anything about interviews on their website. Did you manage to find out anything?

boiroi · 03/01/2025 06:55

@Ladoo2013 I emailed the admissions office and asked if all girls that pass the entrance exam are interviewed and they told me that only girls who pass the exam are invited to interview. There are also interviews for academic scholarships, although I think they are separate to these, which seem to be more of a group chat.

I’ve also asked them if they will be providing any early guidance on fees for 25/26 to help with decisions on whether to accept any place that is offered and they said that they are looking to do that, but didn’t say when.

That’s so helpful, thank you. The interview seems to be quite short like 20 mins I think. We didn’t hear anything about the academic scholarship so presumably she’s not made the cut for that. They would have sent out the emails for those at the same time. Still great that they passed the exam and hopefully they do well in the interview!!

Ladoo2013 · 14/01/2025 16:16

Hi , how did your daughter find the interview. There were quite a few girls going for the interview, do you know how many places they offer in year 7?

boiroi · 15/01/2025 14:57

@Ladoo2013 We’ve been offered a place following the interview. However, she’s not completed her scholarship assessment yet and I want to know the size of any scholarship offer and how much fees will go up by (am assuming they will go up due to VAT and NI changes!) before making a decision on whether to take the place.

Congrats! We got a call not long after my message weirdly! I was very surprised as I thought we not hearing anything till Feb. Is this normally what they do? the scholarship assessments are this week and next. The fees with VAT are on their website now, so have gone a bit. We will see what other offers and scholarships we get before making a decision too.
